Job summary

Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL is seeking a Medical Assistant to support physicians and nurses in ambulatory care. The role involves patient intake, vital signs, exam room preparation and assisting with procedures.

You will administer immunizations, perform phlebotomy and EKGs, and document in Epic. The position requires CPR, MA certification, and strong patient service skills. Shift is 8 hours, with a 9:00 AM–5:30 PM schedule, full-time.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED required.

• Graduates of a Rush Medical Assistant Apprenticeship program must obtain Clinical Medical Assistant Certification within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and maintains organized patient flow.
• Performs patient intake: vital signs, height and weight, reason for visit, interim history, allergies, medication lists, and other interventions as required.
• Prepares patient for exam based on reason for visit.
• Prepares and supports patient and assists provider with procedures.
• Reviews appointment schedules and ensures all patient charts are available for the visit.
• Reviews patient charts and ensures all ancillary reports and required paperwork are available to the provider at the time of visit.
• Performs basic lab and testing procedures according to standards.
• Performs phlebotomy and EKGs.
• Administers immunizations as ordered by Physician.
• Documents administration of medications in Epic per policy.
• Maintains inventory of medical and linen supplies.
• Cleans, prepares and stocks exam rooms and workstations.

Pay Range: $19.50 - $29.73 per hour

Summary

The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting Physicians, Mid-Level Practitioners, and Registered Nurses with the evaluation, management, and treatment of patients in an ambulatory care setting. The Medical Assistant assumes responsibility for maintaining patient flow, the upkeep of exam and treatment rooms, and performing basic skills such as vital signs and point of care testing. In addition, the Certified Medical Assistant will administer intramuscular injections, immunizations, small volume nebulizer treatment, over-the-counter medications under the direction of a Physician. Required Job Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED required.
• Clinical Medical Assistant Certification by AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NAHP, AAH, or NHA required (includes principles and techniques of injections and medication administration) required upon hire.
• Graduates of a Rush Medical Assistant Apprenticeship program are required to obtain Clinical Medical Assistant Certification by AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NAHP, AAH, or NHA required within six months of hire.
• Current CPR certification required upon start date.

Preferred Job Qualifications

• One year clinical experience.

• Performs Tuberculin skin testing upon the order of the Physician.
• Demonstrates appropriate population specific techniques with patients.
• Documents administration of over-the-counter medications and/or other medications in Epic per policy or protocol.
• Cleans, prepares and stocks exam rooms, treatment rooms, and workstations.
• Calls patients regarding test results and medical instruction under the direction of a Physician.
• Calls in medication refills under the direction of a Physician or protocol.
• Documents patient care information in the outpatient medical record according to standards.
• Assists with scheduling of patient tests, procedures, and follow-up appointments.
• Assists in the care, cleaning, and sterilization of equipment and instruments.
• Maintains the inventory of medical and linen supplies.
• Maintains quality control for equipment.
• Provides cross coverage to other clinical areas as assigned.
• Participates in quality improvement projects.
• Maintains compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards and other regulatory bodies.
• May have Unit specific duties as needed.
