Job summary

The Hughston Clinic Orthopaedics is seeking a Medical Assistant, ATC, or LPN for a full-time float position at our Harding Place clinic in Nashville. The role supports physicians in patient care and performs needed administrative duties.

Candidates should have MA certification or at least 1 year of Medical Assistant experience, with outpatient clinic exposure preferred. BLS is required; LPNs must hold TN licensure.

Qualifications

• MA Certification or minimum of one year work experience as Medical Assistant.
• Outpatient clinic experience preferred.
• BLS through AHA or Red Cross required.
• If LPN, TN Nursing License required.

Responsibilities

• Assist Physician(s) in Clinic with patient care activities.
• Complete administrative duties as required.
• Review and maintain charts per EMR guidelines.
• Escort patients from waiting area to triage, monitor flow.
• Record initial vitals and collect specimens as needed.
• Assist with minor procedures and wound care.
• Place, remove, and instruct on splints, braces, bandages.
• Sterilize and stock exam rooms; prepare charts for visits.
• Communicate restrictions and instructions to patients.
• Follow up with patients after procedures to document progress.
• Coordinate scheduling, tests, and referrals with outside facilities.
• Complete insurance, disability, and FMLA forms as needed.
• Assist with general admin tasks like scheduling and data entry.

Education

BLS through American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Athletic Trainer undergrad degree CAATE approved

High School or equivalent

TN Nursing License for LPN

Position Goal

Assist Physician(s) in Clinic with patient care activities. Complete administrative duties as required.

Position Responsibilities

• Familiarity with what the physician requires for a productive clinic.
• Review and maintain charts to ensure completeness/EMR guidelines w/reviewing clinicals.
• Escort patient from waiting area to triage area, ranging from those patients with full mobility to limited mobility. Constant monitoring of schedules and patient flow during clinic to ensure maximum efficiency/organization.
• Review initial vital signs evaluation to include any lab specimens
• Remove staples, sutures, and assist with minor surgical procedures as needed
• Assist with placement, removal, and instruction of devices such as splints, immobilizers, braces, and bandages
• Clean and sterilize equipment using approved techniques
• Clean and stock exam rooms and change sheets on exam tables after each patient
• Communicate restrictions and instructions to patients
• Follow up calls to patients after surgery or other invasive procedure to document their progress
• Communication with outside facilities for scheduling tests or surgery to include having any necessary orders, pre-cert, or referral information ready
• Completion of insurance, disability, and FMLA forms in a timely manner
• Assist in administrative duties as required, to include but not limited to: collection of past due balances when scheduling surgery, check in/check out; scheduling appointments, procedures, and surgeries, pre-cert procedures, insurance verification, data entry, posting charges, and assisting secretaries.

Experience

• MA Certification or Minimum of one (1) year work experience as a Medical Assistant required.
• Outpatient clinic experience preferred.

Education

• BLS through American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
• If Athletic Trainer, undergraduate degree in athletic training/sports medicine from CAATE approved College or University required.
• If Medical Assistant, High School or equivalent required.
• If LPN, Basic education necessary for Nursing licensure required. Current TN Nursing License required.

Special Qualifications

• Must be able to work independently.
• Must have working knowledge of HIPAA requirements.
• Must have knowledge of the health care field and medical specialty.
• This position requires local travel via personal vehicle so a valid driver's license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record upon hire are required (MVR will be screened on an annual basis.)
