Job summary

You will obtain vitals, assist practitioners, document in EMR, manage referrals, and help maintain patient flow while ensuring infection control and patient education. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a patient-focused approach to care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED (required).
• Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

• Obtain vital signs and document in the EMR.
• Assist the practitioner with patient examinations and treatments.
• Gather and organize patient records for evaluation by the practitioner.
• Process prescriptions and coordinate refills with pharmacies.
• Triage calls and escalate urgent issues as needed.
• Maintain patient flow and coordinate rooming and follow-ups.
• Clean and disinfect exam rooms and equipment per OSHA protocols.
• Provide educational materials to patients for informed decisions.
• Document encounters, treatments, and communications in EMR.
• Respond to medical emergencies and seek senior staff help when needed.
• Support front-office tasks like answering calls and scheduling.

Position Summary:

The primary responsibility of a Medical Assistant is to provide clinical and administrative support for Division clinical and administrative staff.

Education, Training, and Certification

• High School Diploma or GED
• Medical Assistant Certification preferred
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Experience

• One year of Medical Assistant experience in a medical practice.

Skills

• Working Knowledge of:
  • Medical equipment and clinical instruments
  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Obtain vital signs and other clinical assessments as indicated and document in the EMR.
• Assist the practitioner with patient examinations and treatments.
• Gather, review, and organize patient documentation and prior medical records for evaluation by the practitioner.
• Perform charting and clerical tasks, including processing prescription requests and coordinating refills with pharmacies.
• Triage patient phone calls to identify emergent and non-emergent situations and escalte concerns appropriately.
• Maintain efficient patient flow by coordinating rooming, procedures, and follow-up activities to ensure seamless patient care.
• Clean and disinfect exam rooms and equipment between patients in accordance with OSHA and infection control protocols.
• Provide patients with educational materials and guidance to support informed treatment decisions.
• Accurately document patient encounters, treatments, and communications in the EMR system.
• Respond promptly to medical emergencies and seek immediate assistance from senior clinical staff.
• Assist with administrative tasks including front office duties such as answering phone calls and scheduling patients.
• Exercise sound judgment, discretion, and initiative in performing assigned duties and supporting clinic operations.
