Job summary

Job description

Overview

NorthWest Arkansas Community College (NWACC) is seeking a part‑time Medical Assistant Instructor. This in‑person, on‑site position reports to the Dean of Health Professions and involves instructing didactic, laboratory, and clinical components, updating curriculum as indicated by industry specifications, and evaluating students. Applications are reviewed when openings arise; postings may close yearly and re‑application may be required to remain in the system.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and update course syllabi for each course taught.
  • Provide instruction that covers the curriculum for assigned classes.
  • Assure compliance with program expectations and support program outcomes.
  • Perform student evaluation and use continuous quality improvement techniques to determine instructional effectiveness and student success.
  • Discuss student concerns related to the learning experience and assist students in developing professional values and attitudes appropriate to the health care profession.
  • Maintain accurate student records; identify students needing assistance and refer/aid as needed.
  • Create a classroom environment respectful of diversity and committed to multiculturalism.
  • Produce reports as requested by the Dean of Health Professions and the NWACC administration.
  • Participate in program development activities and assist in enforcing program regulations; report student conduct violations.
  • Engage with communities served by the program when possible and make recommendations for supplies, equipment, textbooks, and scheduling of facilities.
  • Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter and effective teaching/learning strategies; serve as a professional role model for students.
  • Other duties as assigned to meet student, employer, and program needs.
Salary

$765 per credit hour.

  • Ability to work effectively with employees and leadership at all levels.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio) and HRIS systems.
  • Self‑starter with accountability for performance and minimal supervision.
  • Ability to handle highly confidential material and manage time, multi‑tasking, and organization.
  • Ability to build relationships across the institution, campus, and industry; analyze information and recommend action.
  • Knowledge of planning, research, analysis techniques, and procedures; ability to conduct research and perform quantitative quality assurance reviews.
  • Ability to organize and conduct meetings and workshops; knowledge of state and federal personnel laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to produce clear, concise ad‑hoc reports to leadership.
Qualifications

Required: Currently licensed/certified as a Medical Assistant. An associate degree in healthcare or a closely related field. Minimum of 3 years as a licensed/certified medical assistant.

Preferred: Currently licensed/certified as a Medical Assistant. Bachelor’s degree in healthcare or closely related field. Minimum of 5 years as a licensed/certified medical assistant. Formal teaching experience.
