Job summary

HealthLinc in Michigan City, IN seeks a full-time Medical Assistant to greet patients, take vitals, assist providers, and maintain patient charts in a busy clinic.

Requirements include a High School diploma and completion of a Medical Assistant program, CPR certification, and the ability to pass MA certification within six months. Prior MA experience is preferred; strong teamwork and communication are essential.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prepares patients for examination: greets patients, obtains chief complaint, takes vitals (BP, weight, height, temperature).
• Assists with laboratory requisitions and ensures lab pick-up.
• Administers immunizations and injections under direction of a medical provider.
• Updates and maintains patient charts.
• Answers telephone calls and callbacks as instructed by a registered nurse or medical provider.
• Performs simple medical procedures (e.g., earwax removal) and discusses safety with provider.
• Assists Medical Provider with patient care procedures and tests, collects, labels, and processes specimens per policies.
• Performs routine tests (BS, UA, pregnancy test, strep test, blood draws, TB tests, etc.).
• Cleans and sterilizes equipment/instruments per policies.
• Maintains room cleaning schedule and restocks examination rooms.
• Conducts inventory of supplies and equipment for clinical area.
• Maintains refrigerator temperature for vaccine storage.
• Calls patients regarding test results.
• Draws up medication for provider verification and use.
• Works rotating as seated MA answering phones and processing docs.
• May request medical records from other providers.
• Occasionally supervises/trains students and temporary staff.
• Relieves other MAs as needed.
• Participates in PCMH quality improvement initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

• Cleans and sterilizes equipment/instruments per policies.
• Maintains room cleaning schedule and restocks examination rooms per policies.
• Conducts inventory of supplies and equipment for the medical office/clinical area as needed.
• Maintains temperature controls on refrigerator for vaccine storage as required.
• Calls patients regarding test results.
• Identifies and draws up medication for immediate verification and use by provider.
• Works on rotating basis as seated MA answering phones, processing faxes, checking labs, directing scanner; maintains logs and records for the clinical area.
• May request medical records from other health care providers.
• Occasionally supervises and acts as trainer/preceptor for students and temporary staff.
• Assists the Medical Assistant Supervisor as needed.
• Relieves and substitutes for other medical assistants in all clinical areas as needed.
• Participates in quality improvement initiatives that align with and support the Patient‑Centered Medical Home (PCMH).
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education / Training

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of a program for Medical Assistants.
• Graduate of an accredited 2‑year Medical Assistant associate's degree program (not required but highly preferred).
• Ability to pass MA Certification/Registration exam within the first six months of employment.
• Current CPR certification.

Experience

• At least 1 year of work experience as Medical Assistant (not required but highly preferred).
