Job summary

US Heart and Vascular seeks a Part-time Medical Assistant for our Willowbrook Cardiovascular Associates in Houston, TX. The role involves taking vital signs, inputting medications into the EMR, and supporting physicians during exams.

Required: high school diploma or GED, MA certification, CPR/BCLS, and 1 year MA experience with EKG administration. Some duties may include insurance precertification and transfers, with occasional travel between locations.

Qualifications

• 1 year of Medical Assistant experience
• Current Medical Assistant certification
• Current BCLS certification
• Experience in administration of EKGs is required

Responsibilities

• Take vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, weight, etc.)
• Verify and input patient medications into EMR; update as needed
• Perform EKG, rhythm strip, and printouts; proficiency required
• Assist physicians with patient exams
• Hook up and remove Holter monitors; proficiency required
• Perform stress tests and assist in interpretations
• Handle pharmacy calls and manage prescription refills
• Monitor pharmacy samples; remove expired items
• Receive and respond to patient calls and portal messages in EMR
• Maintain CPR/Medical Assistant certification up to date
• May assist with insurance precertification, prior authorizations, scheduling and transfers
• May move between locations as needed

Description

US Heart and Vascular needs a Part-time Medical Assistant to join our Willowbrook Cardiovascular Associates in Houston, TX.

Responsibilities:

• Takes vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, weight, etc.)
• Verifies and inputs patient medications into EMR. Making changes and additions as needed to the medication list.
• Responsible for EKG, rhythm strip, and signal average EKG hook-ups and printouts. (Proficiency Required)
• Assist physicians with patient exams as needed.
• Responsible for Holter monitor hook-ups and removals, event recorders and Loop recorders. (Proficiency Required)
• Ability to perform stress tests as needed and to assist in test interpretation.
• Takes pharmacy phone calls, reviews charts, and calls in prescription refills.
• Monitors pharmacy samples, removing from stock as expired.
• Receives and returns phone calls from patients and other external sources. Receives and returns portal messages in the EMR.
• Maintains current CPR and Medical Assistant certification.
• May also be responsible for insurance precertification, prior authorization, procedure/surgery scheduling and coordinating transfers and admissions.
• Performs other duties as required.
• May be required to move between locations as needed.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or Texas accredited GED is required.
• Current Medical Assistant certification is required.
• 1 year of Medical Assistant experience is required.
• Current BCLS certification.
• Current experience in administration of EKGs is required.
