Job summary

The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia's UVA Health system is seeking a Medical Assistant - Medical Group to join its care team in Warrenton, VA. This non-exempt role supports clinical and administrative tasks under a licensed practitioner, providing respectful, age-appropriate patient care.

Responsibilities include clinical intake, data collection, documentation, and assisting with patient education while ensuring compliance with UVA Health policies and procedures; CMA/CCMA/RMA

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience: 1 year in a clinic setting preferred.
  • Licensure: CMA/CCMA/RMA or completion of an approved MA program; certification within 6 months.
  • BLS: AHA Healthcare Provider BLS required.

Job Summary

This role requires a commitment to UVA Health' ASPIRE values: Accountability, Stewardship, Professionalism, Integrity, Respect, and Equity, ensuring high standards of patient care and collaborative work environment. The Medical Assistant will provide clinical support, assist with administrative tasks, and provide general support under direct supervision of a licensed practitioner or designee in accordance with UVA Health policies and procedures and competency. The position requires providing service to all age populations in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience in a clinic setting preferred.

Licensure: Current certified medical assistant credentials (CMA, CCMA, RMA) or completion of an approved medical assistant program required. Must obtain certification within 6 months of hire through a recognized national professional association.

Additional Skills/Requirements Required: AHA Healthcare Provider BLS required. Ability to successfully complete general and department role based specific skills validation and competency testing.

    • Records and relays patient information, symptoms, and concerns to the medical provider or registered nurse for triage.
    • Completes standardized rooming and performs clinical intake, health data collection, and documentation.
    • Performs tasks according to scope of practice and as directed by a licensed practitioner or nurse, implementing age‑appropriate interventions.
    • Reinforces patient/family teaching plan based on identified health education needs and the patient's condition and age.

    • Organizes and prioritizes daily work assignments to support patient needs and operational efficiency.
    • Demonstrates teamwork in the delivery of patient care.
    • Recognizes the importance of time‑sensitive issues.
  • Technical Competence
    • Provides clinical support under supervision of a licensed practitioner.
    • Documents and captures charges for clinical services rendered.
    • Performs administrative duties as directed by a clinic leader.

The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

Medium to heavy physical demand: constant standing, frequent walking, bending/stooping. Requires communication and sensory skills. Must lift/push/pull up to 100 lbs., use safe handling equipment for weights over 35 lbs.

Compensation

Base hourly rate: $17.68 – $27.28. Compensation will be determined by qualifications and experience. Pay range does not include incentive programs such as shift differentials, clinical ladders, and other incentives.
