Job summary

Northwell Health is seeking an experienced Medical Assistant at Sharon Hospital. This full-time role covers variable shifts between 7am and 5:30pm, and requires MA experience with vitals, blood draws, and patient rooming.

Certification requirement includes MA, EMT, or relevant experience with BLS within 30 days. Responsibilities include clinical and clerical support, EMR documentation, specimen handling, patient prep, and coordination of in-office testing while maintaining compliance and patient

Responsibilities

  • Greets and escorts patient from waiting room to clinical area and identifies patient.
  • Transcribes and updates patient information in the chart and records demographics, medical and social history.
  • Performs clerical tasks, prepares patient charts, and assists in paperwork and scanning of records.
  • Manages EMR orders reconciliation and ensures clean, stocked examination areas.
  • Maintains patient flow by preparing patients for visits and providing necessary supplies and materials.
  • Coordinates in-office testing and ancillary services as directed by clinician.
  • Collects, prepares, and processes specimens and logs results in patient records.
  • Contacts patients with test results or clinician instructions and follows up as needed.
  • Maintains equipment and supplies, documents inventory, and supports training of new staff.

Medical Assistant - Sharon Hospital - Full Time - Variable shifts between the hours of 7am-5:30pm

Experienced MA - Sharon Hospital - vitals, blood draws, rooming with extensive patient care experience. MA or EMT certification OR 3 years MA-equivalent experience including blood draws, rooming and vitals. MUST have Medical Assistant experience to be successful within this position.

Summary

Provides clinical and clerical support to assure smooth daily department operations in assigned medical practice or practices. Assures that the patient and examination area is properly prepared.

Responsibilities
  • Greets and escorts patient back from waiting room to clinical area. Ensure proper patient identification in accordance with standard operating procedure. Performs all necessary clinical intake activities and documents appropriate information as assigned.
  • Transcribes and updates patient information in the patient record. Transcribes demographic, medication history, social and medical history as reported by the patient.
  • Provides clerical and secretarial work associated with patient care. Prepares and organizes patient charts for assigned providers. Assist in the completion of paperwork such as disability paperwork and scanning of other pertinent patient information as appropriate.
  • Performs and stays current with EMR Orders Reconciliation process as assigned.
  • Assures the examination area is clean after each patient use and stocked. Performs environmental rounds on a weekly/monthly basis as assigned.
  • Assures the patient is properly prepared for the scheduled visit to maintain timely patient flow. This includes assisting patients into gowns, having clinical paperwork, any needed supplies, and educational materials immediately available for the provider use.
  • Conducts in-office testing as directed by the clinician. Coordinates testing and outside ancillary services as applicable. Reviews instructions for upcoming procedures and tests as applicable.
  • Collects, prepares, and processes specimens as directed by the clinician. Completes process by assuring specimen results are logged in the accession book and are reconciled in the patients record.
  • Contacts the patient to provide requested follow-up, advises them of test results or relays clinicians instructions.
  • Maintains inventory and ensures proper upkeep, cleaning and testing of medical equipment and supplies. Fills out appropriate logs.
  • Ability to communicate and document electronic messages effective.
  • Assist in the training of new staff.
  • Demonstrates and maintains practice-based competencies for in-office clinical procedures if applicable.
  • Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
  • Maintains and Model the Organization's values.
  • Demonstrates regular, dependable, and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as required in accordance with their scope of practice.
Education Skills Experience

Required: High School diploma/GED with 1-year Medical Assistant experience, or new graduate of Medical Assistant program, or Nursing Assistant training program, or EMT certification, or 3 years job related experience in a medical office.

Other Information

Basic medical knowledge and terminology. Data entry required. Skilled in obtaining accurate patient vital signs. Minimum Experience: one year. BLS Certification is required within 30 days. Ability to travel between practices as needed.
