About the Role:

The Medical Assistant plays a critical role in supporting healthcare providers by ensuring the smooth operation of clinical and administrative tasks within a medical facility. This position involves direct patient interaction, including preparing patients for examinations, taking vital signs, and assisting with medical procedures such as phlebotomy and specimen collection. The Medical Assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean and sterile environment by properly sterilizing instruments and managing medical supplies. Additionally, this role requires effective communication skills to answer phones, schedule appointments, and coordinate with Nurse Practitioners and other healthcare staff. Ultimately, the Medical Assistant contributes to delivering high-quality patient care and enhancing the overall efficiency of the healthcare team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred.
  • Proficiency in phlebotomy and specimen processing.
  • Basic knowledge of medical instruments and sterilization techniques.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working alongside Nurse Practitioners or in a clinical setting.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Strong communication and multitasking skills.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Ability to handle administrative duties such as appointment scheduling and phone management.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare patients for examination by taking vital signs and recording medical histories.
  • Assist healthcare providers, including Nurse Practitioners, during medical procedures and examinations.
  • Perform phlebotomy and draw blood samples accurately and safely for laboratory testing.
  • Process and label specimens following established protocols to ensure proper handling and testing.
  • Sterilize medical instruments and maintain a clean clinical environment to prevent infection.
  • Manage patient scheduling, answer phones, and handle administrative tasks to support office operations.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure confidentiality in compliance with healthcare regulations.
Administrative Duties:
  • Make a list of medical supplies needed for ordering and giving to Manager
  • Training new MA Apon Hiring
  • Checking medication/ laboratory items for expiring dates and disposing properly of any expired items
  • Make sure to do controls on the following test monthly: A1C machine, UA, Pregnancy test, strep test.
  • Make sure to check the level oxygen tank and sign off and report to Manager if needing to re-order
Clinical Duties:
  • Prepping face sheets, Cusre reports, AWV forms, ED/Urgent Care visit records, specialists' records, etc.... for the next day.
  • Checking in patient over the phone or video visit: make sure they have no changes to their phone # or address.
  • Taking and recording vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse)
  • Updating allergies and the reaction
  • Going through all medication on the patient list and adding or flagging them for removal
  • Make sure to update Pharmacy/ laboratory locations
  • Preparing patients for examinations
  • Assisting physicians during exams and minor procedures
  • Collecting blood, urine, or other lab samples
  • Performing basic lab tests
  • Administering medications or injections (as allowed by law)
  • Giving medical records release form as needed
  • Checking out patient by collecting order from printer and give location information, referral information slip and schedule them their next appointment and printing out AVS
  • Completing Prior Authorization for medication not approved by insurance.
  • Faxing PPW or order out when needed to care home, imaging location or other Doctors office
  • Checking Voice Mails and returning calls
  • Scanning medical records from the basket
  • Putting refills in from the basket or per patient request
