Position Summary
Responsible for a variety of tasks from administrative work to patient and physician support tasks at physician offices, medical clinics and other facilities. Performs or assists in a variety of medical procedures and tests in the examination and treatment of patients , including but not limited to vital signs, procedures, various treatments, administering medications and performing venipuncture.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Obtains and records patient medical histories, vital signs, test results and other information for medical records while maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Performs daily administrative activities, including scheduling, patient check-in and check-out, and patient medical record maintenance.
- Prepares treatment rooms for clinical examinations and assists practitioners with medical procedures and other patient care.
- Delivers compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families.
- Ensures compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
- Prepares and administers medications for patients as directed by physicians.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste and other policies and protocols.
- Performs other related duties as required and directed.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a medical assistant program or one (1) year of medical assistant experience.
- BLS Certification and/or Canadian equivalent
Preferred:
- One (1) year of experience in a medical setting.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- A basic understanding of patient care, medical terminology, coding procedures, reference tools, and appropriate clinical pharmacology for medical assistant practice scope.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Familiarity with electronic medical health care record systems.
