Job summary

IHA in Iowa is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) for day shift to support patient care in a clinical setting. The role includes recognizing emergency needs, assisting with procedures, and maintaining accurate documentation of patient interactions. Certification, BLS, and learning obligations are required within the stated timeframes.

Qualifications

• CMA or RMA certification must be obtained within first year of employment and maintained thereafter.
• Clinic/physician office experience preferred.
• BLS certified or obtained within three months of hire.
• Mandatory Reporter abuse training completed within three months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Recognize and assess emergency needs of patients and initiate appropriate emergency procedures.
• Assist with a variety of procedures, exams and operation of diagnostic equipment as assigned.
• Maintain aseptic technique for preparation, procedures and medications.
• Document all patient interactions accurately and legibly in the patient record.
• Report results and pertinent information to patients and health care team members.
• Perform basic nursing functions (vitals, rooming, assist with procedures, etc) under supervision of physician.
• Maintain professional appearance of patient exam and procedure rooms.
• Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary team to assess patient data.

• Acts to facilitate interdisciplinary communication. Utilizes other members of the health care team in assessing the patient and analyzes patient data. Assesses learning needs of the patient and significant others. Gives accurate and complete information to patient and family.
• Evaluates patient and family understanding of treatment plan and/or instructions.
• Assists with a variety of procedures, exams and/or operation of diagnostic equipment as assigned
• Maintains appropriate aseptic technique for preparation, procedures and medications administered.
• Accurately and legibly documents all patient interactions in patient record
• Reports results and pertinent information to patients and health care team members.
• Functions according to limitations or scope of license or certification.

Marginal Functions

• Maintains supply inventory and stocks supplies in various work areas.
• Responsible for following equipment maintenance protocol, identifying problems, and coordinating appropriate repairs.
• Misc. office duties (i.e. copying, filing, retrieval of films/medical records)
• Assists with nursing chart audits.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required

• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification must be obtained within first year of employment and maintained thereafter.
• Clinic/physician office experience preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support.
• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population serve within three (3) months of hire.
