Job summary

SunState Medical Specialists in Florida is seeking a trained Medical Assistant to provide administrative and clinical support under the physician’s direction. The role focuses on ensuring smooth patient flow and precise documentation within a fast-paced specialty care setting.

You will stay in the exam room with the physician, assist with initial consultations, coordinate testing, draw blood, and document medications and allergies.

Job Description:

Role Summary: This role is a specifically trained individual who demonstrates expertise in dealing with patients during all aspects of care. Performs administrative and clinical duties under the direction of the Physician or Physician’s designee.

Your Key Responsibilities:

• Remain with the Physician or Physician designee at all times in the exam room unless asked to step out or sent to schedule a study.
• Assist the doctor in all aspects of the patient’s consultation, including Initial consultation and exam Routine follow-up examinations Any emergency visits that are needed.
• Assist with schedule and follow-up on all testing that are ordered including proper documentation.
• Responsible for acquiring results and notifying Physician of results on all interim reports.
• Draws blood for various lab tests as ordered by practitioner.
• Follow up on results of lab.
• Perform lab specimen collection per CLIA guideline.
• Perform annual proficiency testing.
• Attend annual OSHA/Biomedical education as applicable in the clinical setting.
• Practice safety precautions and wear personal protective equipment when needed.
• Document and reconcile the patient medication and allergy list. This includes the name of the medication, dose and amount prescribed, physician prescribing, instructions, date and nurse’s initials.
• Documentation of any samples given to patient.
• Responsible for charting patient’s vital signs.
• Update the patient medical, surgical history and history of present illness.
• Assist or perform sterile procedures, medication injections, bladder instillations, and catheterizing of patients as ordered by practitioner.
• Provide patient education, counseling and instruction as appropriate.
• Responsible for reporting or verifying all patient problems as reported.
• Maintain HIPAA rules and regulations as it applies to patient privacy.
• Maintain open communication with all areas of the office as it applies to patient care.
• Be an active part of the center’s team.
• Always demonstrate courtesy and respect.
• Represent the company in a professional manner
• Maintain professional demeanor in stressful situations
• Maintain attendance according to scheduled days and hours and uniform and appearance standards, according to company policy.
• Attends mandatory company training sessions as required by state/federal law where applicable.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Maintain licenses and/or certifications as applicable Medical Assistant Certification
• Excellent attention to detail, good oral and written communications skills
• Must work well with multiple tasks and changing priorities

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in Urology preferred
• 1-3 years’ experience as a Medical Assistant preferred
