Job summary

Baptist Health Medical Group in Palmyra, Indiana, is seeking a Medical Assistant for a first-shift, full-time position in an outpatient clinic. Responsibilities include vital signs, patient history, EMR management, appointment scheduling, and assisting providers.

Upon hire, completion of a clinical competency assessment and MA orientation is required; a sign-on bonus of $2000 is available for eligible new hires. EKGs, phlebotomy, and injections may be performed after training.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; MA program graduate preferred.
  • 1+ year experience as Medical Assistant with direct patient care.
  • Clinical competency assessment and MA orientation required.
  • Basic computer skills; EMR experience a plus.
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire.
  • BAT and DOT certifications within 90 days for Occupational Medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain vital signs, collect patient history, and document in EMR.
  • Support patient flow and appointments in an outpatient clinic.
  • Perform clinical procedures (EKG, phlebotomy, injections) after training.

The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care and clinical support within an outpatient clinic. Responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, reconciling medications, collecting patient history, and facilitating patient flow.

Additional duties involve managing the electronic health record (EPIC), scheduling appointments, processing medication requests, handling prior authorizations, and coordinating tests and procedures. Upon successful completion of clinical competency, the role may also require performing EKGs, lab tests, injections, and/or phlebotomy.

Strong communication and organizational skills are essential to ensure efficient patient care and support for providers. This role requires regular on-site presence to perform the essential job functions.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Equivalency
  • 1+ year(s) of experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical office, clinic or similar setting required. Experience must include direct, hands-on patient care in a clinical setting, such as obtaining vital signs, documenting patient history and medications, and performing clinical procedures (e.g. EKG's, phlebotomy, administering injections or vaccines).
  • Or Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant training program, that includes hands on patient experience as part of the curriculum, required.
  • Upon hire, all Medical Assistants will undergo a clinical competency assessment and must successfully complete MA orientation. Those who do not meet the required standards will be enrolled in the Medical Assistant Trainee Program for further development and evaluation.
  • Basic computer skills, experience with EMR System a plus.
  • Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.
  • BAT and DOT certifications required for Medical Assistants in Occupational Medicine within 90 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications for a Certified Medical Assistant
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification from AAMA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, or AAMP.
  • Or graduate of an accredited LPN or RN program with current unrestricted licensure.
  • Upon hire, all Medical Assistants will undergo a clinical competency assessment and must successfully complete MA orientation. Those who do not meet the required standards will be enrolled in the Medical Assistant Trainee Program for further development and evaluation.
  • Basic computer skills, experience with EMR System a plus.
  • Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.
  • BAT and DOT certifications required for Medical Assistants in Occupational Medicine within 90 days of hire.
