Job summary

Callen-Lorde is seeking a friendly Medical Assistant to join our nursing team in New York. You will prepare exam rooms, support medical providers, room patients, take vital signs, and perform phlebotomy and in-house lab duties in a fast-paced outpatient setting.

We value teamwork, patient confidentiality, and ethical care. Typical shifts are 8am-5pm with some evenings and Saturdays, and a comprehensive benefits package is offered.

Qualifications

• Obtain and document vital signs during patient visits.
• Assist providers with procedures such as pap smears, biopsies, STD screenings, colposcopies, and incision & drainage.
• Perform phlebotomy and process in-house lab tests.
• Carry out clinical tests including urinalysis, glucose checks, urine pregnancy testing, visual acuity, and EKGs.

The MA is responsible for preparing exam rooms, assisting Medical Providers, rooming patients, taking vital signs and providing clinical support. MAs also perform lab duties including venipuncture, processing of in-house lab tests, and packing specimens for shipment. This individual is expected to maintain a high degree of professional competence and the highest possible ethical standards, ensuring patient confidentiality and function as part of a care-giving team.Key Responsibilities:As a Medical Assistant, your responsibilities will include:Obtain and document vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.Assist medical providers with patient preparation and support for procedures like pap smears, biopsies, STD screenings, colposcopies, and incision & drainage.Conduct phlebotomy services to ensure proper processing and documentation of laboratory specimens.Perform clinical tests including dipstick urinalysis, peak flow measurements, finger sticks for glucose, urine pregnancy testing, visual acuity tests, and EKGs.Manage common work areas, exam rooms, and clinical equipment, ensuring they are clean, prepared, and sterilized between visits.Work Schedule:This full-time position requires three opening shifts (8am-5pm) and two evening shifts (12pm-9pm) per week, along with a rotating Saturday shift from 9am to 3pm once per month.Benefits:Salary will be accompanied by the following benefits package including an exceptional low cost medical plan option for you, your spouse/domestic partner and/or your family, dental insurance, vision insurance, no cost life insurance, short- and long-term disability insurance, Flexible Spending Account, Tuition Assistance, commuter benefits, a generous paid time off plan, and a 403B retirement savings plan.Medical Assistant Diploma/CertificationCurrent CPR certification2+ years of experience as a certified Medical Assistant in an out-patient clinical setting preferredLab/phlebotomy experienceExperience working with an Electronic Medical RecordStrong computer competencyPersonal Characteristics, Skills, and AbilitiesAbility to work within team-based structureCommitment to the mission of Callen-Lorde
