Job summary

Tidelands Health in Myrtle Beach, SC, is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant II to join our team in direct patient care. The position supports exam workflows, vital signs, procedures, and medication administration under physician oversight.

The role requires a High School Diploma, 2 years of healthcare-facing experience, and CPR/BLS within 30 days of hire. Phlebotomy skills are preferred, and HIPAA compliance is essential.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of related customer facing experience, preferably in healthcare.
  • Phlebotomy skills and experience, preferred.
  • Basic Life Support Certification is required within 30 days of hire; recertification every two years.

Responsibilities

  • Accompanying patients to exam rooms, preparing patients for exams.
  • Performing and documenting vital signs.
  • Assisting with procedures.
  • Preparing and administering medications with physician's authorization, Performing EKGs.
  • Using CPR skills when required.
  • Drawing blood.
  • Providing patient education with regards to office policies, medication, and management of disease, home treatments, and special diets.
  • Responsible for stocking exam rooms, cleaning rooms, cleaning instruments, disposing of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards, and performing accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.
  • Adhering to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.

A Brief Overview

The Medical Assistant, Certified functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in providing direct patient care. The Medical Assistant, Certified performs routine administrative and patient care supportive duties in a Health System medical practice that assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensure the clinic/office runs smoothly. This job will also entail moderately complex procedures and coordinating multiple resources for patient services. May also perform duties for prior authorization, referrals (incoming/outgoing), good faith estimates, and/or payment collections.

Education Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent

Required Experience Qualifications

Two (2) years of related customer facing experience, preferably in healthcare.

Required Skills and Abilities
  • Computer knowledge, required.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills required to interact with patients, patients' families/visitors and clinical staff, including all levels of providers.
  • Ability to perform with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Phlebotomy skills and experience, preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant - National Healthcareer Association Required or Medical Assistant - American Medical Technologist Required or National Certified Medical Assistant - National Center for Competency Testing Required or Certified Medical Assistant - American Association of Medical Assistants Required
  • Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association is required within 30 days of hire. Recertification every two year
