Medical Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our team at UCHC. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality healthcare services to our patients while ensuring efficient clinic operations.

General Accountabilities
  • Escort patients to exam rooms, interview patients, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and document all information in the patient's chart.
  • Ensure all related reports, labs and information is filled out and available in patients’ medical records prior to their appointment.
  • Secure patient information and maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; keeping patient information confidential.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations; assist physician and physician assistant in exam rooms.
  • Disinfect, clean treatment rooms following patient examinations; maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
  • Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, prepare sterilization as required; properly dispose of contaminated supplies.
  • Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, verifying receipt.
  • Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, cold sterilization fluid change, etc.).
  • Take telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to patient, physician, and pharmacy calls.
  • Draw blood, remove sutures, change dressings.
  • Interview patients to obtain their medical history.
  • Record patient medical history, vital statistics, and test results in patient medical files.
  • Perform routine screening tests, such as height and weight measurements and blood pressure checks.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent substitute.
  • Experience: 2 years; combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience.
  • Required Certifications and/or Licenses: BLS certification (AHA) required; certification as a medical assistant (CMA) preferred.
  • Skills: Experience with EMR, MS Word, Excel, MS Outlook.

Physical Requirements
  • Physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 25 lb limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved. The ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time is required.
