Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Medical Assistant to support physicians in a multi-site clinical environment in Las Vegas, NV. You will perform phlebotomy, venipuncture, EKG testing, specimen processing, and assist with in-office procedures.

You will document vital signs, manage patient records in the Onco/EMR system, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines while providing excellent patient care.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • State-required certifications/licenses as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians with in-office medical procedures (bone marrows, FNAs, paracentesis, pelvic exams).
  • Perform phlebotomy and lab work, quality control, troubleshooting, and equipment maintenance.
  • Prepare slides for evaluation and handle specimen processing.
  • Send outside tests to facilities per patient insurance plans.
  • Maintain test logs, QC logs, equipment records, and patient documentation.
  • Record vital signs and PHQ9 screening; prepare patients for physicians.
  • Document reports in patient charts/Onco EMR; coordinate outside testing/referrals.
  • Complete electronic superbill steps and encounter forms; assist with scheduling.

Job description

  • Assist physicians with in-office medical procedures, including bone marrows, fine needle aspirates, paracentesis, and pelvic exams
  • Perform phlebotomy, blood draws, laboratory blood work, testing, quality control, troubleshooting, and equipment maintenance
  • Prepare blood or bone marrow slides for evaluation
  • Handle and process specimens according to laboratory procedures
  • Send outside laboratory tests to appropriate facilities based on patients’ insurance plans
  • Maintain test report logs, quality control logs, equipment records, checklists, and patient documentation
  • Obtain and document patient vital signs, height, weight, pain level, and PHQ9 screening
  • Room and prepare patients for physicians
  • Receive laboratory reports and document them in patient charts or the Onco/EMR system
  • Schedule outside testing, physician referrals, and hospital admissions as ordered
  • Prepare encounter forms and complete electronic superbill steps
  • Show physicians critical blood counts according to guidelines
  • Obtain scans and CDs for physician review
  • Maintain laboratory supply inventory and place purchasing orders
  • Troubleshoot instrument malfunctions and contact central laboratory or service providers
  • Perform EKG testing where applicable
  • Maintain laboratory compliance with state and federal regulations and perform compliance testing
  • Observe safety guidelines and maintain laboratory and equipment cleanliness
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with patient-care, billing, safety, and organizational policies
  • Assist in training new employees
  • Work at any AON location as needed and work overtime with sufficient notice
Requirements
  • High School or GED
  • Certifications/licenses as required by the state where employed
  • BLS required
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations as needed
  • One year of experience as a medical assistant in a clinic or physician’s office
  • Ability to perform venipuncture
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, analysis, decision-making, planning, time-management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and work with sensitive and confidential material
  • Effective oral, written, presentation, active-listening, and feedback skills
  • Strong customer focus and organizational awareness

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-site environment
  • Ability to work remotely effectively as required
  • Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Experience with EMR
  • Travel under 25%
  • Good command of the English language; a second language is an asset but not required
  • Ability to complete the required number of annual CEUs to meet C.O.L.A. requirements
