Job summary

Hometown Urgent Care is seeking a Medical Assistant to support healthcare delivery across our clinics. You will take patient histories, record vital signs, perform screenings and phlebotomy, and assist providers with exams and procedures in a fast-paced urgent care setting.

Responsibilities include point‑of‑care testing, medication documentation, sterile technique, and coordinating referrals. Travel to designated care centers is required as part of the role.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years previous experience in a physician practice or clinic setting preferred.
  • Basic computer skills, including the use of Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Ability to function independently with good clinical judgment.
  • Ability to complete and maintain CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Take patient history and obtain vital signs.
  • Perform basic testing or screenings (vision, audio, urine drug screens, breath alcohol, EKGs, pulmonary function testing).
  • Perform phlebotomy for collection of laboratory samples.
  • Accurately complete paperwork/computer work for lab tests.
  • Administer subcutaneous, intradermal, and intramuscular injections and document per policy.
  • Perform point of care testing (strep, mono, glucose, influenza, pregnancy tests, urinalysis).
  • Dispense and document medications and other treatments.
  • Maintain sterile technique and sterilization; use of autoclave.
  • Schedule and coordinate records for ancillary care; assist with exams and testing.
  • Assist with pelvic exams, eye/ear irrigations, I&Ds, splinting/ortho glass prep.
  • Conduct occupational medicine testing (urine drug screens, breath alcohol, audiogram, DOT physicals).
  • Protect patient confidentiality (HIPAA).
  • Ensure equipment working; report malfunctions.
  • Log laboratory procedures and related paperwork.
  • Handle patient call backs, referrals, and education.
  • Maintain examination rooms and stock supplies.
  • Support patient flow.
  • Explain insurance acceptance and pricing; collect payments; complete registrations.
  • Travel to care centers within designated region.
  • Protect patient rights and confidentiality.
  • Clean and stock sites; train team members.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Overview:
As a Medical Assistant at Hometown Urgent Care, you will play a crucial role in supporting healthcare delivery by assisting healthcare professionals in various clinical and administrative tasks. Your contribution will be vital in ensuring the safety, welfare, and comfort of our patients.

Duties:

  • Responsible for taking patient history and obtain vital signs
  • Perform basic testing or screenings such as: vision, audio, urine drug screens, breath alcohol, EKGs, pulmonary function testing.
  • Perform necessary phlebotomy for collection of laboratory samples.
  • Accurately complete corresponding paperwork/computer work for lab tests ordered on blood, urine, tissue, and culture samples.
  • Able to perform subcutaneous, intradermal, and intramuscular injections and accurately complete paperwork according to policy for that procedure.
  • Perform point of care testing such as: strep, mono, glucose, influenza, Urine pregnancy, Urinalysis, blood glucose levels.
  • Dispense and document medications and other treatment modalities.
  • Insure sterile technique, instrument cleaning and sterilization, proper use of the autoclave.
  • Schedule and coordinate necessary records for ancillary care for patients.
  • Assist providers with exams and testing (pelvic exams, eye irrigations and ear irrigations, I & D’s and splinting/ ortho-glass preparation
  • Perform occupational medicine testing such as: urine drug screens, breath alcohol testing, audiogram, and DOT physicals
  • Maintain confidentiality with all patient information (HIPAA).
  • Ensures equipment is in working order. Reports equipment malfunctions to manager.
  • Logs laboratory procedures completed. Processes related paperwork using computer equipment as directed.
  • Responsible for patient call backs, scheduling physician referrals; specialist’s referrals and pharmacy issues; and patient’s education.
  • Maintains examination rooms, sterilization of equipment and stocks necessary medical supplies.
  • Performs duties to ensure good patient flow.
  • Registration duties: explain to patients' accepted insurances and those out of network and knowledgeable of all pricing. Properly collect and record payments, complete registration screen in a timely manner.
  • Travel to care centers within designated region
  • Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal information
  • Cleans and stocks the site with other members of the team
  • Training other team members.
  • Additional job responsibilities may be assigned.
  • 1-2 years previous experience working in a physician practice or clinic setting is preferred.

  • Ability to function independently without close supervision, and to consistently exercise discretion and the highest level of good clinical and other professional judgment.
