Job summary

Children's Mercy Kansas City is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide supportive patient care within our Weight Management team and hospital clinics. You will assist in safe patient handling, support unit operations, and participate in education programs, with supervision from physicians, APRNs, and RNs.

Starting pay begins at $20.27/hr and offers are based on education and experience. This on-site role requires immunization records, includes non‑remote work, and supports our mission to deliver

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or equivalent and 1-2 years experience
  • 1 year of experience in patient or customer facing roles
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred
  • Certified Medical Assistant / Registered Medical Assistant / NRCMA / National Certified Medical Assistant required upon hire
  • BLS certification Required Upon Hire

Responsibilities

  • Provides supportive patient care.
  • Assists in the maintenance of a safe environment and promotes efficient and safe operations.
  • Performs clerical functions.
  • Attends education programs, unit meetings and assigned committees.
  • Shares responsibility for teaching and orientation of new personnel (within own skill level).

Overview

Effective weight management involves caring for the whole person. Kids in our Weight Management program receive care from a dedicated team of experts who are passionate about helping people have a healthier lifestyle. Our team includes registered dietitians, exercise physiologists, pediatric psychologists, education coordinators, social workers, pediatricians, nurses and nurse practitioners. We partner with families, children, and teens to create actionable plans to help them achieve and maintain a healthier weight. The Weight Management program is part of Kansas City's Center for Children's Healthy Lifestyles & Nutrition. As a partnership between Children's Mercy, the University of Kansas Medical Center and other academic institutions, the Center represents an extension of the community’s collaboration in the area of pediatric obesity research.

Medical Assistants provide basic, uncomplicated patient care and assist with unit/department operations under direct supervision of a physician, APRN, PA, or RN. Assignment of job responsibilities are delegated by the medical provider, RN, Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager or Resource Manager assigned to supervise the Care Assistant and in accordance with this job description.

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $20.27/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.

Remote Work/Work from Home

This position is not eligible to work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children's Mercy locations and may not work from home.
