Job summary

HCA Houston Healthcare Medical Center in Houston, TX is seeking a Medical Assistant to support patient flow and front/back-office operations. The role includes scheduling, patient check-in/out, charging and payments, and assisting nursing staff with basic clinical tasks.

The position requires Medical Assistant certification and completion of a Medical Assistant program, with at least one year of clinical experience in a healthcare setting.

Qualifications

• Medical Assistant Certification required. Acceptable certifications include RMA, CCMA, CMA, NCMA, or NCRMA.
• Medical Assistant Program completed or in progress.
• One year of Medical Assisting or direct clinical patient care experience in a healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

• Schedules and cancels patient appointments.
• Checks in and checks out patients.
• Enters charges and payments; verifies patient insurance and demographics.
• Answers telephone and supports nursing staff as needed.
• May collect patient specimens and assist with minor procedures.
• Maintains exam/treatment rooms and supplies; ensures sterilization.
• Reads and adheres to hospital policies and code of conduct.

Job Summary And Qualifications

What you will do in this role

• Schedules and cancels patient appointments
• Checking-in and checking-out patients
• Enters charges and payments
• Answers the telephone
• Verifies patient insurance and demographics
• Collection of co-payments/coinsurance and personal balances
• Performs selected administrative duties and assists nursing staff
• May collect patient specimens
• May administer injections and assist with lab testing and phlebotomy
• May apply casts, splints, and dressings, as applicable
• Takes patient histories and vital signs
• Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments
• Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization
• Assist physicians in preparing for minor procedures and physicals
• Perform other duties as required
• Must read, understand, and adhere to all HCA Houston Healthcare Medical Center policies and procedures.
• Practice and adhere to the Code of Conduct and Mission and Value Statement.

What qualifications you will need:

• Medical Assistant Certification required. Acceptable certifications are RMA, CCMA, CMA, NCMA, or NCRMA certification/ABR-OE credentials are acceptable
• Medical Assistant Program
• One year of Medical Assisting or other direct clinical patient care experience in a healthcare setting
