Job summary

Forefront Dermatology in Hampton, VA seeks a Medical Assistant to support the dermatologist during visits and maintain a friendly, efficient patient environment.

The role involves rooming patients, documenting vitals, scribing, performing post-op wound care, drawing blood, and assisting with Mohs surgery, biopsies, injections and other dermatology procedures. Prior MA experience preferred; CMA/LPN/RN credentials valued.

Qualifications

• Post-high-school education in a medical support field and CMA/LPN/RN credentials
• Derm Tech certification program completion may be required for non-certified assistants
• Proficiency with computers and EMR systems

Responsibilities

• Room patients and document vital information
• Scribe information for the dermatologist
• Provide post-op wound care
• Draw blood and suture removal
• Clean and stock exam rooms; schedule patient appointments
• Assist dermatologist with procedures such as biopsies, Mohs surgery, phototherapy and injections

The Medical Assistant is essential during the patient visit, accompanying the dermatologist in the room and promoting a friendly and efficient environment for patients, staff, and dermatologists.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

• Rooming patients and documents all vital information
• Scribing information for the dermatologist
• Providing post op wound care to patients
• Drawing blood and suture removal
• Cleaning and stocking the exam rooms
• Scheduling patient appointments

Assisting the dermatologist with procedures such as:

• Surgical photographs
• Biopsies – punch, DIF and shave
• Excisions
• Electrodessication and curettage
• I&D
• Mohs micrographic skin cancer surgery
• Phototherapy
• Injections
• Koh preps
• Trichograms
• Tzank preps
• Dermabrasion
• Patch testing
• Blue light

Qualifications

Education:

Minimum post high-school education in a medical support field: Certified Medical Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurse, or Registered Nurse (Non-Certified Medical Assistants will need to complete the Forefront Derm Tech certification program within the prescribed time period and maintain certification upon expiration).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• 1+ years of recent experience in a medical office in a similar capacity is preferred
• Certified Medical Assistant, DERM Tech a plus
• Must keep current on all state certifications, licenses and/or registrations to continue employment
• Must be willing to travel to other clinic locations as needed
• Proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office and Electronic Medical Record systems
• Must possess organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with staff, clients, and visitors
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team
