Location & Pay

Fort Wayne Medical Oncology and Hematology – Pay Range: $15.83 - $26.38

Summary

Assist physicians with medical procedures in office. Responsible for phlebotomy, laboratory testing, quality control, instrument troubleshooting, and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform proper quality control procedures before patient testing.
  • Perform laboratory blood work and blood draws.
  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing.
  • Execute technical laboratory procedures accurately and on time, meeting accreditation standards.
  • Prepare blood or bone marrow slides for evaluation.
  • Send outside labs to appropriate facilities as directed by patient’s insurance plan.
  • Maintain test report logs, quality control logs, equipment records, and checklists per regulatory agencies.
  • Follow AON patient ID policy and procedure with every patient encounter.
  • Obtain vital signs, height, weight, pain level, and PHQ9 depression screening and document in Onco/EMR.
  • Place patient in exam room and prepare for physician promptly.
  • Receive lab reports via telephone, lab system, or fax and document in patient’s chart or Onco/EMR for physician review.
  • Assist physicians with procedures: bone marrow aspirates, fine needle aspirates, paracentesis, and pelvic exams.
  • Schedule outside testing, referrals to other physicians, and hospital admissions as ordered.
  • Document testing and treatment rendered; prepare encounter forms for billing or electronically superbill.
  • Document all QC and QA corrective actions.
  • Show physician critical blood counts according to guidelines.
  • Obtain all pertinent scans and CDs and prepare for physician’s review.
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of supplies and place orders with purchasing as needed.
  • Initiate troubleshooting when instrument malfunctions and contact central lab or service company.
  • Perform EKG testing where applicable.
  • Carry out any duties required to keep laboratory compliant with state and federal regulations.
  • Perform compliance testing and complete required CEUs annually to meet C.O.L.A. requirements.
  • Observe safety guidelines, maintaining cleanliness of the laboratory and equipment.
  • Assist in training new employees on job duties.
  • Work at any AON location as needed and accommodate overtime with sufficient notice.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED; certifications/licenses required by state.
  • BLS certification.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle for clinic travel.
  • Minimum 1 year experience as a medical assistant in a clinic or physician’s office capable of venipuncture.

Work Schedule

Standard Core Workdays/Hours: Monday–Friday,8:00AM–5:00PM. Occasional overtime and weekend shifts may be required based on location needs. Travel required less than 25% of standard workdays.
