Job summary

Northwest Cancer Centers in Indiana is seeking a Medical Assistant to support physicians and clinicians in a clinical setting, ensuring smooth patient flow and care during exams and procedures.

The role involves entering patient data, preparing rooms, assisting with procedures, and handling basic administrative tasks. Must have a high school diploma with MA certification preferred and BCLS within 3 months.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Certificate of graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
• Entry level position requiring 0-3 years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant.
• Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire.
• Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
• Some state regulations may require specific certifications to work as a Medical Assistant.

Responsibilities

• Escort patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment areas.
• Record patient data prior to each visit (vital signs, height, weight, allergies, medication changes).
• Obtain necessary patient records as required by physician before treatment.
• Prepare and stock exam/treatment rooms and order supplies as needed.
• Assist physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
• Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections as delegated by RN or physician.
• Maintain exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
• Answer patient phone calls and refer to physician or nurse/pharmacist as needed.
• Enter prescriptions and make other patient calls as directed by physicians and RN.
• Notify physician of reschedules and no-shows.
• Perform other administrative duties (typing, filing, faxing, chart prep, reception) as requested.

SCOPE

Under direct supervision, assists physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical environment. Promotes efficient patient flow and patient care, i.e. exams, and procedures. Performs clinic support tasks including miscellaneous clerical tasks, answering phones, and maintaining physicians schedule. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
