Job summary

Allina Health is seeking a Medical Assistant at the Unity Mental Health Outpatient Clinic in Coon Rapids. You will support providers and nursing staff, room patients, manage flow, and assist with injections and specimen processing in a fast-paced ambulatory setting.

The position is 0.8 FTE on day shift with a $2,000 starting bonus, 32 hours every two weeks, and no weekend rotation, plus benefits and growth opportunities. MA program completion required.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience to meet required competencies.
  • Completed Medical Assistant program or comparable healthcare education program.
  • At least 160 hours of clinical externship if MA experience is under 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Rooms patients, manages patient flow and collects accurate medical information.
  • Performs injections, assists with procedures and coordinates test results with providers.
  • Maintains safety, stocks rooms, and supports front desk as needed.

Job Description

Provides support to providers and the nursing staff in the delivery of timely, quality patient health care services. Some duties include assisting with rooming patients, managing patient flow, administering medication, and communication with patients.

Principle Responsibilities
  • Rooms patients, manages patient flow and obtains adequate patient medical information/data.
    • Collects and confirms pt information via interview, questionnaires, vital signs and accurately documents in EMR according to documentation standards.
    • Assists patients, as necessary, to prepare for physician exam, including providing psycho-emotional support.
    • Assists with the collection, labeling, and processing of specimens.
    • Facilitates obtaining lab/imaging results.
    • Works with the electronic medical records in basket, responding to messages as delegated by RN or provider.
    • May need to help cover front desk and provide backup to patient registration/scheduling.
  • Performs patient care tasks as delegated by Provider or RN.
    • Performs injections.
    • Assists with procedures.
    • Supports patient care and reinforces patient information regarding tests, labs, procedure preparation, treatment plan, preventative or other health information.
    • Coordinates results of tests, procedures etc. with provider or RN.
    • May prepare refill information for provider to review and prescribe.
    • May assist with patient transportation.
  • Contributes to an environment that is safe for patients, visitors, and employees.
    • Reports environmental risks or equipment malfunctions to Supervisor and via safety huddles.
    • Uses equipment following policies, procedures and manufacturer directions or standards.
    • Follows all policies, procedures, standard work, and proper techniques when providing patient care.
    • Cleans, stocks, maintains inventory for exam, medication and supply rooms.
    • Reports any acute problems and changes in patient's condition.
    • Applies High reliable safety principles to all interactions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience needed to meet required principle competencies as listed on the job description.
  • Candidates must have completed a Medical Assistant program or a comparable healthcare education program with a similar scope of clinical training.
  • Candidates with fewer than six (6) months of Medical Assistant experience must have completed a minimum of 160 hours of clinical externship or equivalent clinical practicum.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous Medical Assistant experience.
  • Medical Terminology.
Licenses/Certifications
  • Must meet at least ONE of the requirements below:
    • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
    • Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross.
    • Allina in-house BLS training (within 30 days of hire).
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred. Acceptable certifications include:
    • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA - AAMA).
    • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA - AMT).
    • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA - NHA).
    • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA - NCCT).
    • Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA - NHA).
Physical Demands
  • Medium Work*:
    • Lifting weight up to 32 lbs. occasionally (*Allina Safe Patient Moving Policy), up to 25 lbs. frequently.
Pay Range

Pay Range: $22.04 to $30.01 per hour. The pay described reflects the base hiring pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
