Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program and/or Licensed Practical Nurse program.
  • CPR certification preferred.
  • Phlebotomy training and prior lab experience preferred.
  • One year of experience in a physician office setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians and nursing staff with patient care.
  • Prepare patients for examination and treatment; take histories and vital signs.
  • Prepare exam and treatment rooms with instruments and supplies.
  • Administer injections and perform lab testing and phlebotomy.
  • Schedule appointments, manage charting, and assist with prior authorizations.
  • Coordinate with Residential RN for hospital visits and discharge planning.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies; document lab results and actions.
  • Support communications with doctors, pharmacies, and other medical staff.

They provide information, clinic and lab services, and check-in assistance while promoting a positive relationship between clients and clinic staff. Additionally, the Medical Assistant helps with Phlebotomy, insurance assistance, and supports the Registered Nurse in monitoring and improving the health outcomes of individuals served.Essential Job Functions:Assisting physicians and nursing staff with patient carePreparing patients for examination and treatmentTaking patient histories and vital signsPreparing exam and treatment rooms with necessary instrumentsAdministering injections and performing lab testing and phlebotomyPreparing and maintaining supplies and equipment for treatmentsResponsible for appointment scheduling, prior authorizations, and chart managementProviding information to patients to help them benefit from clinic servicesVisiting residential locations as assigned by LeadershipReviewing physician's orders, MARs, diets, and diet/choking precaution forms during visitsIdentifying additional medical training needs and communicating with the teamSupporting staff in communications with doctors, pharmacies, and other medical specialistsCoordinating with Residential RN for hospital visits, discharge planning, and other medical needsConducting health and medical reviews as instructed by leadershipChecking and maintaining Durable Medical Equipment quarterlyAccompanying individuals to medical appointments and ensuring their rights are protectedCommunicating health concerns to the agency team and taking appropriate actionMaintaining a schedule of clients' doctor appointments and sending reminders to staffProviding direct support and care hours to medically involved individuals as neededPerforming general lab and phlebotomy duties, communicating lab results to providers and nursing staffAssisting with client rooming, verification of data and medical history, and preliminary physical requirementsCompleting documentation in a timely manner according to company policies and proceduresPerforming light housekeeping of check-in, lab, and medication roomsInventorying and restocking supplies, maintaining lab refrigerator temperature logsManaging clinic injection calendar and notifying providers and clients of refill needsUnlocking clinic doors, checking nursing mailbox, and conducting weekly sample medication countParticipating in required meetings and performing other duties as assigned by nursing staff and leadership.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Operates calmly in a crisis and maintains positive relationships with various stakeholdersHas good verbal and written communication skillsMaintains a positive attitude and adapts to a rapidly changing environmentUpholds the organization's mission, values, and principlesWorks with people of different socio-economic backgrounds with dignityEnsures client information confidentiality and follows safeguarding protocolsCan read and interpret various documents and reports within electronic health recordsWrites reports and correspondence effectively using multiple platformsCommunicates effectively in-person, over the phone, and through video conferencingPossesses basic mathematical and problem-solving skillsFollows instructions and accepts supervisionExperience and Education Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent requiredGraduate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program or Licensed Practical Nurse in applicable stateCPR certification preferredPhlebotomy training and previous lab experience preferredOne year of experience in a physician office setting preferredSupervisory Requirements:N/AEmployment Requirements:Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect and fingerprint check.Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.Physical Requirements:ADA Consideration - Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (exists up the 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (exists 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
