Job summary

American Family Care Chesapeake is seeking a Medical Assistant to support outpatient clinic operations. You will obtain patient vitals, record medical history, and prepare patients for exams, while explaining procedures and ensuring accurate test delivery.

Responsibilities include specimen collection, in-house lab work, immunization administration, and documentation. A two-year degree or equivalent, plus AMT/AAMA credentials preferred, with a focus on patient care and safety.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or equivalent; six months to one year of related experience considered.
• AMT registration and AAMA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Obtain patient vitals, medical history, and reason for visit, and prepare the patient for a physical exam
• Explain prescribed procedures and treatments to patients
• Ensure all ordered tests are performed accurately and in a timely manner
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with the approved procedure
• Draw blood and prepare labs for reference lab processing and/or in-house processing
• Perform laboratory tests, lab-quality controls, and equipment maintenance according to written instructions
• Respond to all lab messages and call back requests
• Perform all drug screening procedures in accordance with established rules and regulations
• Ensure patient immunizations are well documented and administered in accordance with the approved procedure
• Conduct physician referrals as well as service pre-certifications on an as-needed basis
• Prepare exam rooms; sterilize instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures
• Maintain complete and accurate documentation
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Education

Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school

AMT registered

AAMA Certification Medical Assistants preferred
