Job summary

Upperline Health is seeking a motivated Medical Assistant to support physicians in a Brainerd, TN clinic. You will handle clinical tasks, patient prep, vitals, and basic administrative duties in a podiatry/orthopedic focused setting.

Experience with X-ray and EMR systems is preferred, with a strong emphasis on care coordination for Upperline Plus patients and collaborative teamwork across disciplines.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Medical Assistant preferred.
• Podiatry or Orthopedic clinic experience preferred.
• X-ray experience is a plus.
• Clinical care coordination or care management experience is ideal.
• Previous experience assisting geriatric patients preferred.
• Excellent computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology.
• Experience working with Athenahealth EMR is preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Place patients in exam rooms and prep them for physician.
• Complete exam intake reviewing medical history and social history.
• Record vitals and document in Athenahealth EMR.
• Assist in exams and take X-rays as required.
• Restock exam rooms and dispose of trash daily.
• Clean and sterilize exam and X-ray rooms after visits.
• Coordinate care for Upperline Plus patients by phone.
• Support care coordination: records requests, referrals, appointments.
• Travel to surrounding clinics to provide support if needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Upperline Health.

About the Medical Assistant role

Upperline Health is seeking an energetic, compassionate and driven Medical Assistant to assist our physicians in delivering complex health services within the clinic setting. This person primarily will work in our Brainerd, TN clinic and will be responsible for supporting the physician with a range of clinical and administrative tasks. Responsibilities will vary, and candidates must be flexible problem solvers and collaborative team players who are eager to learn and tackle problems. Ideal candidates will have podiatry or orthopedic experience and x‑ray experience.

Medical Assistant Responsibilities

• Place patients in exam rooms; ensuring that they are ready and comfortable for their appointment with the physician
• Complete exam intake, including but not limited to; reviewing medical history, social history, surgical history, and the history of present illness
• Complete vitals and required documentation in clinic EMR (athenahealth)
• Provide patient care under the direction of a podiatric physician including taking x‑rays and assisting in the exam room as required
• Perform daily administrative tasks such as re‑stocking exam rooms and disposing of exam room trash
• Responsible for cleaning and sterilizing exam and x‑ray rooms both after each patient visit and at the end of each day
• Conduct health assessments and complete visits with Upperline Plus patients
• Telephonic outreach and engagement with Upperline Plus patients to coordinate ongoing preventative care
• Care coordination activities including, but not limited to; medical records requests, order management, appointment scheduling, managing patient care referrals, etc
• Travel to surrounding area clinics to provide support if needed
• Other related duties as deemed necessary by Upperline Health

Medical Assistant Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Medical Assistant preferred
• Podiatry or Orthopedic clinic experience preferred
• X‑ray experience is a plus
• Clinical care coordination or care management experience is ideal
• Previous experience assisting or providing care to the geriatric patient population is preferred
• Excellent computer skills and strong knowledge of medical terminology
• Previous experience working in an EMR; preferably athenahealth
• Must be an effective communicator with excellent grammar and interpersonal skills
• Exceptional customer service highly preferredReliable transportation is required
• Excellent oral and written communication skills

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

• Day‑to‑day work includes desk computer work and direct patient interaction, facility staff and physicians
• Position may have extended periods of standing and to lift more than 5 lbs
• The work environment is characteristic of a health care facility with air temperature control and moderate noise level

Compensation

Compensation is commensurate to compensation for similar positions in the region and based on prior training and experience.
