The role involves calibrating equipment daily, conducting safety surveys, maintaining patient confidentiality, facilitating vital signs and triage, and supporting other departments as needed.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of occupational medicine or equivalent experience.
  • General organizational skills and reliability.
  • High school diploma or GED and current full unrestricted certification.
  • Computer skills including electronic medical records.
  • Must pass background check, drug screening, and safety examinations.
  • Advanced credentials preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain knowledge of all equipment including x-ray, respirator fit machines, pulmonary function, audiometry, and related tools.
  • Calibrate all equipment daily per manufacturer requirements.
  • Survey equipment and stations to identify and correct safety or hygiene hazards.
  • Complete administrative steps for equipment data verification and recording.
  • Administer respirator fit tests in compliance with CFR 1910.134.
  • Maintain and develop customer relationships with speed and professionalism.
  • Disinfect and inspect respirators after each test.
  • Keep customer data confidential at all times.
  • Facilitate medical patients' vital signs and triage as needed.
  • Stay current with safety topics, software, and training technology.
  • Attend and pass a week-long certifying course in NIOSH and CAOCH.
  • Attend and pass required drug and alcohol testing courses.
  • Maintain precise drug testing procedures and undergo remediation when needed.
  • Respond to after-hours calls as required.
  • Coordinate with radiology vendor for quick x-ray reporting.
  • Support state radiologic inspections (x-ray technicians only).

Job description

Position Overview

The 30+ year company supports the petrochemical and manufacturing industry domestically and internationally and is positioned along the Gulf Coast, providing training, occupational medicine, and innovative solutions to industry. The Medical Assistant is a senior-level team member who is responsible for performing many aspects of the occupational health center's services. Job duties and tasks are listed below. In addition, the Medical Assistant may be trained to perform other occupational health services not listed. The Medical Assistant is a vital part of the OHS program as a whole and will be required to perform other technician duties as requested by management to ensure safe and effective medical services to HASC/Global Health customers.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all equipment, which includes but not limited to the x-ray machine, medical tools and equipment, respirator fit machines, pulmonary function machines, audiometry machines, audio fit testing machines, functional capacity machines, and breath alcohol machines.
  • Calibrate all equipment at the beginning of each day in accordance with the manufacturer’s requirements. Additional calibrations may be required at other times according to the manufacturer's specifications.
  • Conduct periodic surveys of equipment and stations so that all safety and hygiene hazards to customers and FCE Technicians are identified and corrected.
  • Complete all the administrative steps applicable to the equipment so that all required information is verified and properly recorded.
  • Administer respirator fit tests in full compliance with CFR 1910.134 Respiratory protection Standard.
  • Maintain and develop customer relationships by responding to questions, concerns, and requests from customers with speed and professionalism.
  • Thoroughly disinfect and inspect each respirator upon completion of each test.
  • Ensure all customer data and paperwork is kept confidential at all times.
  • Facilitate medical patients' vital signs, triage, room placement, etc.
  • Keep up to date with relevant safety topics, software and lecture, and online training technology
  • Attend and successfully pass a week-long certifying course in NIOSH and CAOCH
  • Attend and successfully pass all required drug and alcohol testing courses
  • Strive to maintain personal drug testing procedures that are flawless- undergo mandated remediation within 30 days of error notification.
  • Respond to after-hour calls as needed.
  • Promptly communicate with the radiology vendor to ensure quick x-ray reporting.
  • Facilitate State Radiologic inspections (x-ray technicians only)
Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Current full unrestricted certification

  • Must be able to fully pass all job site verification requirements, including but not limited to a background check, drug screening, and safety examinations.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to read, talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle training equipment and tools, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Reporting Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant reports directly to the Manager of Medical Services. This position does not have direct reports.
