Job summary

Piedmont Urgent Care by WellStreet is seeking a Medical Assistant for a fast-paced clinical setting in Athens, GA. You’ll support patient care, handle triage and EMR documentation, and assist with Occupational Medicine services, while maintaining a focus on accuracy and patient comfort.

This role offers 12-hour shifts on a 3-day schedule, no overnights, with benefits including medical, dental, vision, and more, plus opportunities for certification reimbursement and professional development.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • 1+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant (urgent care or ER a plus).
  • Proficiency in venipuncture, injections, and clinical procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examinations and treatments to ensure comfort and understanding.
  • Perform triage and take accurate vital signs.
  • Obtain and document detailed patient history in the EMR system in a timely manner.
  • Collect routine laboratory specimens (blood, urine, oral swabs).
  • Administer medications and non-intravenous injections (IM, subcutaneous, intradermal).
  • Start IVs, place catheters, and perform splinting when needed.
  • Handle basic clinical, aseptic, and laboratory procedures to support patient care.
  • Assist with Occupational Medicine services (drug screening, breath alcohol, audiograms, PFT).
  • Enforce HIPAA and OSHA compliance and healthcare regulations.
  • Perform office procedures and general administrative tasks; operate medical equipment.
  • Oversee quality assurance programs, CLIA waived lab requirements, and patient result trackers.
  • Travel to other Piedmont Urgent Care locations as required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Patient Preparation: Assist with preparing patients for examinations and treatments, ensuring they are comfortable and well‑informed.
  • Triage & Vital Signs: Perform triage and take vital signs accurately.
  • Documenting Patient History: Obtain and document detailed patient history in our Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system in a timely manner.
  • Lab Specimens: Collect routine laboratory specimens, including blood, urine, and oral swabs.
  • Medication & Injections: Administer medications and non‑intravenous injections, including intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections.
  • Clinical Procedures: Start IVs, place catheters, and perform splinting when necessary.
  • Clinical & Laboratory Procedures: Perform basic clinical, aseptic, and laboratory procedures to support patient care.
  • Occupational Medicine: Assist with our Occupational Medicine services, including drug screening, breath alcohol testing, audiograms, and pulmonary function testing, while adhering to company protocols.
  • Compliance: Enforce and maintain healthcare regulatory requirements, including HIPAA and OSHA compliance.
  • Administrative Duties: Perform office procedures and general administrative tasks; proficiently operate office medical equipment.
  • Quality Assurance: Oversee compliance with quality assurance programs, CLIA waived laboratory requirements, and patient result trackers.
  • Travel Requirement: Support staffing and operational needs by traveling to other Piedmont Urgent Care locations as required.
Required Qualifications:
  • Education & Certification: Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Experience: 1+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant (urgent care or ER a plus)
  • Skills: Proficiency in venipuncture, injections, and clinical procedures
  • Technical Skills: Experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) software, EPIC preferred
  • Flexibility: Ability to work 12‑hour shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Team Player: A positive, proactive approach to patient care and collaboration
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, and use hands and arms throughout the workday.
  • Manual dexterity and hand coordination sufficient to perform assigned clinical duties.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move moderate weight, generally between 20 and 40 pounds.
  • Vision abilities that include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
