Pay

Pay or shift range: $25.71 USD to $31.88 USD

Full salary range is based on years of experience and other factors.

Description

Job Summary

The Medical Assistant works as part of a team of clinic healthcare providers and support staff, escorts patients, records vital signs, assists with minor diagnostic procedures, maintains records, and coordinates patient flow.

Education

Experience
  • Customer service experience with the general public (at least 1 year).
  • Experience in a multi‑provider medical practice.
  • ICD‑10 coding experience.
  • CPT‑4 coding experience.
  • Experience with insurance/billing in a healthcare setting or organization.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record and practice management systems.
  • Experience working with low‑income, multi‑ethnic populations.
Credentials
  • Medical Assistant – Certified or Interim certification with the State of Washington.
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR/AED). Certification must be obtained at hire.
  • Verified immunity to measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), and varicella (chickenpox). Immunity may be demonstrated through vaccination records or titer results. Medical or religious accommodation requests may be reviewed on a case‑by‑case basis.
Job Specific Functions / Performance
  • Greets patients, interpreters, and visitors in person and by phone in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner; takes messages and provides accurate information regarding schedules and services.
  • Monitors schedules and patient arrivals, participates in sequencing patients, and assists co‑workers to maintain smooth, efficient patient flow throughout the clinic.
  • Assists providers with minor diagnostic procedures, treatments, and education as directed.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
  • Coordinates health information tasks with Health Information Specialists.
  • Reviews scheduled appointments in advance to prepare for the patient visit (e.g., obtaining immunization registry, ER records, specialty reports, diagnostic results).
  • Performs capillary and venous blood withdrawal as directed.
  • Administers intradermal, subcutaneous and intramuscular injections as directed.
  • Administers eye drops and topical ointments as directed.
  • Labels and maintains proper storage for specimens and tests; performs in‑house lab testing and delivers on‑site results to provider.
  • Completes tasks in a timely manner.
  • Accurately and timely documents services provided, including submission of billing codes.
  • Schedules patients for procedures and provides all necessary paperwork and instructions prior to procedure.
  • Maintains patient exam and procedure rooms fully stocked, organized, clean, safe, and prepared before and after each patient encounter; prepares appropriate instruments and materials for each treatment procedure.
  • Follows established inventory and supply monitoring system and purchasing protocols for maintaining stock and ordering supplies as assigned.
  • Follows established protocols for routine calibration, cleaning, disinfection, sterilization of instruments and equipment, and reports maintenance needs.
  • Performs quality control testing for all CLIA waived in‑house lab tests.
  • Processes diagnostic and urgent referrals as delegated.
  • Performs duties of a Medical Receptionist as needed and assists other departments when called upon.
  • Adheres to infection control practices and written plan.
  • Adheres to attendance standards to perform job functions for daily operations and continuity of patient care.
