Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review patient charts, verify diagnostic tests and reports.
  • Take vital signs, perform screening, and report patient history to the Advanced Practice Provider.
  • Assist with procedures, vaccinations, IV starts, EKGs, and emergency response as needed.
  • Coordinate occupational health visits and maintain required records and logs.
  • Provide clerical support, greet patients, manage referrals, and process communications.

Role Overview

Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Medical Assistant

Schedule will be 3 weeks on-site with 3 weeks off-site

Reporting to the Advanced Practice Provider

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review patient charts for upcoming visits by verifying that all diagnostic test results, reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date
  • Prepare patient for examination by performing preliminary physical test: taking vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respirations, oxygen saturation, weight, height, temperature), relevant screening (Urinalysis, rapid strep, influenza, COVID, ISTAT, Hem cue, SNELLEN, Blood Glucose) and reports patient history summary to Advanced Practice Provider
  • Assist the Advanced Practice Provider with patient care, minor procedures, medication administration, immunization, IM medications administration, IV starts, EKG, dressing changes and emergency response
  • Support Teck’s Occupational Health Surveillance Program in alignment with OSHA and MSHA surveillance mandates conducting the following occupational medical assessments: surveillance testing incorporating blood draws of lead, cadmium, Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT), Urine Drug Screen (UDS), Oral Fluid Drug Test, Audiometric, Respiratory Fit Testing, Spirometry, X-ray
  • Coordinate and schedule occupational health visit screening exams and ensure mandated record keeping requirements and follow up results
  • Responsible for timely and proper handling, collecting, manifestation, shipping of specimen collection for submission to Quest Laboratories
  • Assist the Advanced Practice Provider in welcoming new hire employees ensuring fit for duty testing physicals are completed, BAT/UDS and surveillance screenings are complete
  • Electronic Medical Record timely documentation and data entry
  • On call duties to include assistance with after hour, post incident BAT/UDS, and supporting the Advanced Practice Provider with emergency response
  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms; stocks assigned areas and ensure par levels of medications and supplies are maintained; check quality control measures and complete required logs and equipment such as refrigerator logs, eyewash logs, emergency/crash carts, suction and other required checks
  • Maintain medical records; ensures all required documentation is available in the medical record; distribute reports and correspondence; file, photocopy and process forms related to medical charts
  • Perform departmental-related clerical duties such as greeting patients, tracking referrals, sick leave applications, emails and answering phones as needed
  • Complete and maintain all required professional and organization certifications and licensure
  • Engage and participate in staff meetings, training courses and engagement as a preceptor

Qualifications
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Medical Assistant, EMT-1, EMT-2, EMT-3, Paramedic, Registered Nurse (RN), Occupational Health Technician (OHT), or CHAP who possess the knowledge and skills to perform the specific accountabilities listed above
  • One (1) to two (2) years experience working in a medical clinic facility and/or emergency services team
  • Must be able to work independently and as member of a proactive, consciously customer service-oriented team
  • Effective time management skills, organization skills, and flexibility to meet the needs of our patients
  • Self-starter who demonstrates strong initiative and sense of urgency with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to operate in a strict climate of confidentiality and discretion, following HIPAA protocols
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required and willingness to learn EMR
  • Excellent oral and written communication, editing, organization and interpersonal skills are a must
  • Current BLS/CPR
