Job summary

Henrico Doctors Hospital is seeking a Medicaid Eligibility Advocate to join the Forest location. The role focuses on eligibility screenings, counseling patients on insurance benefits and co-payments, and coordinating between patient, hospital, and government agencies.

You will verify benefits, obtain authorizations, collect necessary documents, file applications, and maintain accurate data in the hospital system. Field visits may be required with reliable transportation.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree preferred.
• Minimum one-year related experience preferred, preferably in healthcare.
• Relevant education may substitute experience requirement.

Responsibilities

• Screen and evaluate patients for existing insurance coverage, federal and state assistance programs, or hospital charity applications.
• Re-verifies benefits and obtains authorization and/or referral after treatment plan has been discussed, prior to initiation of treatment. Ensures signatures are obtained on all forms.
• Obtain legally relevant medical evidence, physician statements and documentation required for eligibility.
• Complete and file applications. Initiate and maintain follow-up with patient and government agency caseworkers to ensure timely processing of all mandated applications.
• Ensure all insurance, demographic and eligibility information is entered into the system. Document progress notes in the patient’s file and hospital system.
• Participate in ongoing training programs as required.
• Follow policies and procedures to contribute to office efficiency. Cover and assist with other office functions as requested.
• Make field visits as necessary and have reliable transportation.
