Job summary

The Office of the Indiana Attorney General is seeking a Public Relations Assistant to support day-to-day media content creation and public communications. This entry-level role offers hands-on experience in government communications, media relations, and storytelling while contributing to the office’s mission.

You will capture and edit videos and photos at events, draft press releases, and create engaging social media content.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations or a closely related field preferred, but not required, including strong academic credentials.
• 1-3 years of related experience.
• Comfortable shooting/editing video and taking photos.
• Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
• Strong communication skills.
• Understanding of print, broadcast, and online media.

Responsibilities

• Capture and edit videos and photos at events, press conferences, community outreach, and office activities to support communications efforts.
• Write and draft press releases and short statements under guidance.
• Create engaging social media content (posts, captions, graphics ideas) for platforms like X/Twitter and Facebook to share office updates and initiatives.
• Assist in monitoring local and state news, current events, and social media mentions related to the Attorney General and office priorities.
• Help prepare monthly newsletters and other basic communications materials.
• Support coordination of media-related activities, such as assisting with press events or distributing materials.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with the Attorney General, team members, media contacts, and the public.
• Works well under pressure and handles stress; Accepts performance-based criticism and direction.
• Performs other communications duties as assigned.
