Media Assistant (On-Call)

Job summary

The Town of Merrimack seeks a part-time media services assistant to manage Merrimack PEG Access TV content. You will record, log, edit, and publish programming for the public access channels, and provide training to volunteers and community groups using the town’s equipment.

Successful candidates will have an associate degree in video production or related field, and at least two years of hands-on production experience.

Qualifications

• Must have an associates degree in a field related to video production or broadcast, or any combination of education and experience that would demonstrate that the individual possesses the required skills knowledge and abilities to perform the required tasks.
• Experience with Windows and Macintosh operating systems and computer file management.
• Minimum of two years experience in video production and practical experience in the use of consumer, industrial, and professional related computer equipment
• Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective relationship with staff, administrators and the general public. Experience with Final Cut (Express or Pro), Photoshop and other non-linear based editing and imaging software is preferred.
• Availability on weekends and evenings and possession of valid New Hampshire driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Manage digital video files; move, copy and organize for optimal programming ability, minimization of errors, and accurate removal for spatial requirements.
• Recording, logging, timing of related programming and management of the access channel to ensure that scheduled play lists are entered directly into the common video server.
• Authorizes the loan of portable equipment for Merrimack PEG Access TV use.
• Conducts training classes, as directed or required, for public access producers using the Town of Merrimack’s PEG Access TV equipment.
• Enforces the Town of Merrimack’s Policies and Procedures.
• Records various programs, meetings, and events for all Merrimack TV channels.
• Produces, writes, and edits content for Merrimack TV and affiliated web-based platforms as directed by their supervisor
• Accommodates Merrimack PEG Access TV Volunteers with proper audio and lighting conditions in studio.
• Remain current on principals, practices, and new developments in both the operation of community media centers in relation to hardware and software.
• Works to improve Merrimack PEG TV by way of increasing volunteerism, programming, and overall activity at the Town’s PEG TV Studio.
• Keeps current with applicable laws, rules and regulations related to cable television, public access television, video recording and related issues.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Job description

Records Board and Committee meetings and events, produces, writes, and edits content for Merrimack TV and affiliated web-based platforms, provides training of media production equipment to volunteers, community members and organizations intending to use the Town’s Cable (PEG) TV Access system.

Implements all approved policies and procedures. Ensures respectful, fair, non-discriminatory access to all volunteers of Merrimack PEG TV. Strong commitment to First Amendment in community programming required.

Works under the direct supervision of the Media Services Coordinator.

Minimum of two years experience in video production and practical experience in the use of consumer, industrial, and professional related computer equipment

Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective relationship with staff, administrators and the general public. Experience with Final Cut (Express or Pro), Photoshop and other non-linear based editing and imaging software is preferred.

Ability to conduct communication sessions with public producers and staff, maintaining positive, open communication.

Availability on weekends and evenings and possession of valid New Hampshire driver’s license.
