El Puente is a human rights institution founded in 1982 with a mission to inspire and nurture leadership for peace and justice. Based in New York City and Puerto Rico, El Puente supports community-led movements for self-determination through youth and community development, arts and cultural organizing, education, and civic engagement.

El Puente is rooted in the belief that young people are leaders, artists, organizers, and agents of change. Its Youth Leadership Centers bring together arts for social change, academic enrichment, and leadership development through a membership model. Young people participate regularly, build relationships with peers and mentors, and use the arts to explore and respond to issues that affect their communities.

The Opportunity

El Puente is seeking a Media Arts Facilitator to lead hands-on workshops in filmmaking, photography, and digital art at its Beacon program at M.S. 50. The facilitator will help young people build technical skills, tell stories in their own voices, and use media to explore culture, identity, and social justice.

This position is ideal for a teaching artist who enjoys working directly with young people, can adapt instruction to different learning needs and abilities, and wants to collaborate with artists across disciplines. Through workshops and youth-led projects, the facilitator will create opportunities for members to develop their ideas and share their work with peers, families, and the wider community.

The Role

The Media Arts Facilitator works with Beacon staff to help youth members develop original media projects from concept through presentation. The facilitator also works with teaching artists across El Puente sites on Art-ivation projects that engage young people and families in arts and social justice work.

  • Guide members from developing their ideas through production, editing, and presentation. Teach responsible recording and sharing practices, and give young people a say in the stories they tell and how they share them.
  • Maintain a safe, welcoming workshop environment through active supervision. Assign responsibilities to classroom assistants when available.
