Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Transport Paramedic to join the MedCenter Air team. You will care for ill and injured patients under Medical Control, maintain certifications, and ensure vehicle readiness.

Strong documentation and adherence to policies are essential to provide safe, efficient transport. Responsibilities include med administration, IV therapy, and potential involvement in public relations as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited EMT-Paramedic training program required.
  • Current state EMT-P certification required.
  • SC EMT-P and National Registry Paramedic certifications preferred at hire; must be obtained within 90 days.
  • BCLS and ACLS required.
  • PALS, STABLE, and NRP preferred; trauma certification within 6 months.
  • Advocate Health driving course within 90 days of hire.
  • One-year active field pre-hospital experience required.
  • Three years total paramedic experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Completes skills check in a timely manner with accuracy.
  • Maintains a clean environment for the base and vehicles, restocking and cleaning at shift start and as needed.
  • Documents patient care accurately and ensures charts are in the medical record promptly.
  • Delivers quality patient care and education per policies and state regulations.
  • Administers medications and IV solutions safely per policy.
  • Follows protocols when Medical Control is unavailable.
  • Assists with public relations and marketing activities as needed.
  • Follows safety guidelines and ensures seat belts are worn.
  • Adapts to vehicle assignments as needed by departmental needs.
  • Drives in accordance with policy and regulations.

Job description

Functions as a member of the transport team and is responsible for the care of ill and injured patients. Provides patient care while promoting safety and efficiency. Performs under the direct supervision of the Medical Control Physician, either by continuous radio contact or direct consultation. Maintains necessary certifications, licenses, skills, continuing education and complete competency checks as required. Maintains vehicles in a mission‑ready status.

Responsibilities
  • Completes skills check in a timely manner with accuracy.
  • Maintains a clean environment for the base and vehicles, checking, restocking, and cleaning at the beginning of each shift and as needed throughout the shift.
  • Provides accurate and legible documentation of patient care with attention to detail that accurately reflects assessments and interventions. Ensures that charts are placed in the patient’s medical record in a timely manner and reviews charts on a regular basis with the leader/manager.
  • Provides quality patient care and education in accordance with policies and state regulations as approved by the Medical Director and professional standards of care.
  • Administers medications and IV solutions safely, correctly and per policy.
  • Follows guidelines and procedures independently when Medical Control is not available via radio or direct consultation.
  • Assists with other activities, including but not limited to public relations and marketing activities when needed.
  • Follows safety guidelines and procedures; ensures seat belts are worn by crew and passengers.
  • Follows vehicle assignments as directed by the department and maintains flexibility with vehicle assignments, understanding that assignments may change based on departmental needs.
  • Drives in accordance with Advocate Health policy as well as local and state regulations.
Physical Requirements

Duties require working, transporting, and driving in all weather conditions, including exposure to extreme hot, cold, and wet weather. Must not have any physical, emotional, or mental impairment that would prevent effective riding, driving, or administering patient care in a transport vehicle. This work area may involve cramped space, poor lighting, and moderate noise levels, particularly around aircraft. Requires handling patients with infectious diseases, exposure to unpleasant conditions, or contaminated materials, and the ability to function in high‑stress situations. Must have critical thinking skills, concentration, and the ability to make rapid, appropriate decisions to ensure the safety of both crew and patients. Heavy lifting is required, with assistance for moving patients and equipment. Physical stamina and endurance are necessary. Must maintain fitness standards and have intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, touch, good finger dexterity, motor skills, and eye/hand coordination. Good personal hygiene, appropriate conduct, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills, including speaking proper English, are required.

Education, Experience and Certifications
  • High school graduate or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited EMT‑Paramedic training program required.
  • Current, applicable state EMT‑P certification required.
  • SC EMT‑P and National Registry Paramedic certifications preferred at hire; SC EMT‑P and National Registry Paramedic required within 90 days of hire and maintained throughout employment.
  • BCLS and ACLS required.
  • PALS, S.T.A.B.L.E., and NRP preferred; approved trauma certification required within 6 months of employment.
  • Advocate Health approved driving course to be completed within 90 days of hire and maintained throughout employment required.
  • One‑year active field pre‑hospital experience required.
  • Three years total paramedic experience preferred.
  • Annual completion of safety briefings and annual survival training required.
  • Valid driver’s license required, with a minimum of 2 years holding a license and qualifying as insurable by Advocate Health insurance carrier requirements for driving MedCenter Air vehicles.
  • Operational smartphone required for use as a communication device related to MedCenter Air operations.
Hours per Week

40 hours

Pay Range

$24.10 – $36.15
