Job summary

Harmony Senior Services is seeking a Med Tech to provide quality care and assist with daily living activities for residents in Chesapeake, VA. The role includes medication administration within scope, documentation in EMAR/MAR, and coordinating with nursing staff.

Qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED, completion of Medication Aide Course, and CNA/Med Tech licenses in good standing plus CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain within 60 days.

Qualifications

  • Must have High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must have completed the Medication Aide Course.
  • Must possess both CNA and Med Tech license from the State Board of Nursing in good standing.
  • Must satisfactorily pass 2 medication observations annually.
  • Must satisfactorily pass all medication cart audits assigned.
  • Must attend 4 additional hours of medication administration education annually.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in-writing.
  • Must be organized and able to work well with all levels of personnel.
  • Must be a contributing member of nursing team and follow instruction of supervisor.
  • Must be polite and considerate of residents, visitors, and co-workers at all times.
  • Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs, and push or carry 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to safely lift and transfer residents while maintaining proper body mechanics.
  • Must be in designated uniform during working hours, to include name badge and a smile.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified, or be willing to become certified within 60 days of hire.
  • Must be able to represent the community in a positive and professional manner.
  • Must attend and complete all required in-services and staff meetings.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to remain calm and competent during emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Administer prescribed medications within the established scope of practice.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living.
  • Document medication administration on EMAR/MAR and Daily Log.
  • Pass medication administration observations.
  • Re-order medications and coordinate with pharmacy.
  • Report incidents and resident status to appropriate staff.
  • Maintain medication cart and complete cart audits.
  • Communicate resident needs to HCD and family as needed.
  • Support move-in transitions and provide emotional support.

Job Description

The Med Tech provides quality care and assistance with activities of daily living for residents of the community as well as assists with the administration of prescribed medications within the established scope of practice.

Assists with the administration of prescribed medications within the established scope of practice.

Must maintain a working knowledge of all policies and procedures pertaining to the position

Assists residents with activities of daily living

Reports incidents involving residents to include care concerns or issues, to appropriate individuals (ex: HCD, RN/LPN, or ED)

Perform housekeeping duties, such as making resident beds, cleaning resident apartments, common areas, dining room, etc. as directed by supervisor

Respond promptly to all resident calls for assistance or emergency alerts

Assists in planning and conducting activity programs for residents

Follows confidentiality policies regarding release of resident information

Assists residents to and from the dining room, and to and from activities

Checks on residents, ensures attendance at meals and activities

Checks on residents who are ill and reports status or concerns to appropriate individuals

Communicate verbally and in writing to report resident status, upcoming community information, resident appointments, admissions, and transfers

Assists new residents with move-in transition: provide emotional support

Attendance to all medication trainings scheduled

Complete medication cart audits as assigned and maintain the medication cart as directed

Pass all medication administration observations

Communicates all medication resident needs to the HCD and documents in the Daily Log

Re-orders medications, faxes to pharmacy, communicates with resident family/RP as needed with changes. Reports in Daily Log

Documents all medication administration on the EMAR/MAR. Reports all exceptions to the HCD and documented on EMAR and Daily Log

Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Pay Range: 20/hr - 20.60/hr
