Job summary

Responsibilities

• Receive bedside report and admit/orient new patients and families; verify patient identification and orders in EMR.
• Develop and implement nursing care plans in consultation with supervisor, physician, and/or ancillary services.
• Plan for discharge or transfer and initiate social service referrals when needed.
• Deliver direct patient care as staff nurse and act as charge nurse when required.
• Conduct hourly rounds, record vital signs, monitor treatments and equipment.
• Prepare and administer medications; manage IV infusions and wound care.
• Observe and report patient status changes and respond to emergencies per protocol.
• Float to other clinical areas for emergencies and interdepartmental support.
• Explain procedures to patients and families and ensure understanding of regimens.
• Assist in supervising LPNs, aides, and students; promote teamwork and continuous quality improvement.
• Perform other duties as directed by hospital policy.
