LPNs work closely with patients and their families, as well as with doctors, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team, and being able to effectively relay information about the needs and condition of a patient is a vital part of ensuring optimal care.
- Decision-Making Skills: Good decision-making skills are essential to enable efficient and effective patient care, including in emergency situations.
- Computer Skills: Computer skills are vital for maintaining accurate patient records and reporting changes in patient conditions to the healthcare team, with much of this documentation done on computers.
- Supervisory Skills: LPNs typically monitor the activities of nursing assistants and orderlies, requiring supervisory skills to maintain a functional and professional team environment.
- Clinical Skills: The clinical skills learned during the practical nursing program prepare the LPN to participate in patient care with knowledge and confidence across a wide range of duties.
