Responsibilities

  • Performs Pre-Visit Planning to improve clinic efficiency and identify care gaps.
  • Makes exam rooms ready and maintains a clean, safe environment.
  • Greet patients and families, direct to exam rooms, and maintain clinic flow.
  • Collects and documents vitals, allergies, and home medications; reports concerns to nurse or provider.
  • Assists providers with exams, administers vaccines/immunizations and aids with procedures.
  • Maintains communication with staff to ensure smooth clinic operations and timely care.

Essential Functions
  • Performs Pre-Visit Planning prior to clinic appointments to ensure visit efficiencies and identify care gaps
  • Maintains a clean, organized environment and prepares exam rooms to meet safety and clinical requirements.
  • Greets patient and family in a welcoming manner, directs patients and families to exam rooms. Maintains clinic flow, monitoring patient location and wait time.
  • Assists with the collection and documentation of patient information such as: vitals, measurements, health screenings, allergies, and home medications. Reports any observations or concerns to the nurse or provider.
  • Assists the provider in the exam process, administers medications, immunizations and assists with procedures including capillary and peripheral blood draws as directed.
  • Communicates with providers, leaders, and staff to maintain clinic operations. Alerts provider or Registered Nurse (RN) of any patient needing immediate assistance.
  • Communicates with clinic leader about the quantity of supplies that equipment needed for patient care is available at all times for the clinic needs.
  • Prepares for clinic by completing paperwork procedures, assuring all necessary information, prior authorizations or pre-certifications, etc. Assists with customer service representative duties as needed.
Education
  • High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) required.
  • Graduate of medical assistant program, preferred. In lieu of this education, 6 months of experience in a patient care role would be considered.
Experience
  • Experience in a primary care, urgent care, or specialty care pediatric setting preferred.
  • Experience in administering immunizations and other injections preferred.
  • Experience with pediatric patients preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to work with a diverse patient population to promote a culturally competent environment.
  • Requires flexibility of time and duties in order to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team.
  • Electronic Health Record proficiency preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
  • CMA-Certified Medical Assistant - American Association of Medical Assistants preferred
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council required
Patient Care Responsibility
  • Provides care appropriate to patient population and as described in applicable policies and procedures.
Clinic Schedule
  • Monday-Friday 0800 to 1630 (0730 to 1600 occasionally)
  • Staffing at Greenfield clinic on a rotation basis also required
