Job summary

ENGEL North America is seeking a Mechatronics Integrator to start up automation cells and support installation at customer sites. You will work with linear, SCARA, and articulated robots, bowl feeders, conveyors, and safety systems.

Strong focus on troubleshooting, commissioning, and documentation is required. The role requires knowledge of robotics, PLCs (Siemens/Allen-Bradley/Beckhoff), and control networks, with travel and hands-on installation across sites.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent training/experience as a control systems integrator.
  • Minimum of two years of related experience in robotics or automation.
  • Knowledge of HMI, control system processors, industrial instrumentation, and control system networks (EtherCAT, Ethernet, Profinet).

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, install, troubleshoot, and commission automation hardware and software.
  • Assemble and install mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic components.
  • Validate safety equipment per standards and set parameters for automation systems.
  • Perform FAT and SAT, coordinate with Project Manager and engineers.
  • Document software and hand over to local service technicians.

POSITION INFORMATION

Job Summary: Start‑up of automation cells containing various combinations of linear, SCARA, and articulated industrial robots, bowl feeders, drawer systems, conveyors, machine guarding & safety systems, as well as other custom automation equipment delivered to our customers.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assemble, install, troubleshoot, and commission industrial automation hardware and software
  • Assembly and installation of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic components
  • Power source and communication verification
  • Software installation and debug
  • Safety equipment validation according to safety standards
  • Setup of parameters, sequence, and positions of automation and robotic system.
  • Examples: VFD & Bowl Feeder parameters, KUKA Safe-Op, FANUC DCS, etc.
  • Ensure system performs according to sales order
  • Ensure quality conformance of all equipment to ENGEL standards
  • Verify completeness and prepare for shipment
Perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of automation cells & equipment
  • Dry or full cycle of products for entire production cell
  • Communicate with Project Manager on performance and findings
  • Maintain an agreed upon run and cycle time
  • Work in tandem with engineers to provide any solutions necessary
Perform installation and automation cell start‑up at the customer site
  • Oversee rigging and setting of equipment
  • Install mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic components
  • Perform process steps to ensure performance and quality of production cell
  • Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and sign‑off with the customer to conclude the automation cell start‑up process
  • Final documentation and archiving of software
  • Handover to local service technician
  • Provide system introduction (usage and service) to customer personnel (operators, technicians, engineers)
  • Perform hardware & software retrofits to existing ENGEL automation systems
  • Willingness to learn ENGEL proprietary equipment & controls

Qualification Requirements
Educational/Training Requirement
  • Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology (EET), Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET), Electromechanical Engineering Technology (EMET) or equivalent training & experience as a control systems integrator
Experience
  • Minimum of two years of related experience in robotics or automation is required
  • Preferred Robot experience: KUKA, Fanuc
  • Preferred Control experience: Siemens, Allen Bradley, Beckhoff
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with high attention to detail
  • Knowledge of Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), control system processors, industrial instrumentation, control system analog & digital I/O, control system networks (EtherCAT, Ethernet, Profinet)
  • Knowledge in graphical & ladder logic programming code
  • Knowledge in reading mechanical drawings, pneumatic and electrical schematics
  • Perform work on multiple projects and tasks
  • Articulate technical information exchanges in both verbal and written form
  • Operation of an overhead crane and forklift
  • Good communication skills as this role develops and maintains relationships both internally (e.g., employees within and outside of own department) and externally to ENGEL Machinery (e.g., customers), mainly to supply and/or interpret information.
Travel Requirements
  • Travel time per year (Average): 30% - 45%
  • Travel period: up to 4 weeks
  • Travel to other countries is required
  • Valid passport is required
  • Driver’s license required
Physical Requirements

This role requires working in a production environment and utilizing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Lifting of equipment is required up to 50 lbs.
