We are seeking a Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineer with 3+ years of experience to take 0-to-1 ownership of Actuation—from initial physics concept to production-ready hardware.
In this role, you won't just design parts; you will own full actuator assemblies, custom motion control mechanisms, and drive systems end-to-end. You will apply physics first-principles to solve novel mechanical challenges in a high-tempo, fast-iterating environment.
Core Responsibilities
- End-to-End Ownership: Design, analyze, prototype, test, and ship complete actuation subsystems and custom mechanisms.
- First-Principles Design: Apply core physics and mechanical engineering fundamentals to optimize power density, weight, torque/force delivery, and thermal performance.
- Rapid Prototyping & Iteration: Build functional prototypes quickly in-house using rapid fabrication techniques, iterating through hardware cycles with a strong bias toward action.
- Cross-Functional Integration: Work closely with electrical, controls, and software engineers to seamlessly integrate motor control, sensors, and drive systems into high-performance physical hardware.
- Design for Scale: Transition mechanisms from initial benchtop proof-of-concepts into robust, manufacturable hardware.
Qualifications & Skill Set
Must-Haves (Requirements)
- Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience designing, building, and deploying hardware actuators, mechanisms, or motion control systems.
- Track Record: Proven history of 0-to-1 subsystem ownership that resulted in physical hardware shipped or fielded.
- Technical Depth: High proficiency in SolidWorks/CAD, finite element analysis (FEA), and physics-first mechanical design.
- Education: BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a closely related field.
- Mindset: Decisive builder mentality with high bias for action; low ego and high ownership.
Preferred Background (Nice-to-Haves)
- Experience at fast-paced hardware or robotics environments.
- Experience with complex transmission systems, tendon/cable-driven mechanisms, or high-density robotic hands/manipulators.
- Hands-on experience with MATLAB/Simulink for dynamic modeling and system simulation.
