Job summary

Belcan Corporation in Nashua, NH, is seeking a hands-on Mechatronics & Controls Engineer to design and develop automated purification systems. You will work across mechanical design, controls, automation, testing and equipment development with SolidWorks, PLC troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration.

The role requires a strong background in industrial automation, drawing up BOMs, and developing control logic and HMIs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in mechatronics, mechanical, electrical engineering or related field.
  • Experience designing mechanical equipment using SolidWorks and reading P&IDs/electrical schematics.
  • Experience programming, modifying, or troubleshooting PLCs and industrial control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical equipment, assemblies, frames, piping layouts and components using SolidWorks.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and documentation.
  • Design, modify and improve automated purification systems and equipment.
  • Modify and troubleshoot PLC programs and control logic.
  • Develop and modify HMI interfaces and instrument integration.
  • Support startup, testing, commissioning and field installation.

Job Title: Mechatronics & Controls Engineer

Pay Rate: $95,000-$120,000+ (DOE)

Job Summary

We are seeking a hands-on, technically curious, and results-driven Mechatronics & Controls Engineer to join our team. This role is responsible for designing and developing automated purification systems while working across mechanical design, controls, automation, testing, and equipment development. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in SolidWorks, troubleshooting PLCs, and collaborating with manufacturing, technicians, vendors, and customers.

Responsibilities
  • Design mechanical equipment, assemblies, frames, piping layouts, and components using SolidWorks
  • Develop and maintain engineering drawings, bills of materials, and manufacturing documentation
  • Design, modify, and improve automated process equipment and purification systems
  • Modify and troubleshoot existing PLC programs and control logic
  • Develop and modify HMI interfaces
  • Integrate pumps, valves, motors, VFDs, sensors, transmitters, and other instrumentation
  • Develop equipment sequences, alarms, interlocks, and control logic
  • Read and develop P&IDs, mechanical drawings, and electrical/control schematics
  • Select mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation components
  • Work with manufacturing technicians during equipment assembly, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Perform system startup, testing, debugging, and factory acceptance testing
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and controls issues
  • Support equipment installation and commissioning at customer facilities
  • Improve and standardize existing equipment designs and processes
  • Participate in new product and system development
  • Work with customers, vendors, technicians, and other engineers to solve technical problems
  • Take ownership of projects and independently identify and resolve technical challenges
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or a related field; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
  • Experience designing mechanical equipment using SolidWorks
  • Experience programming, modifying, or troubleshooting PLCs
  • Understanding of industrial automation and control systems
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and electrical/control schematics
  • Experience working with sensors, instrumentation, motors, valves, and other industrial components
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in engineering documentation
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Comfortable working onsite and occasionally working directly with equipment
  • Ability and willingness to work 100% onsite in Nashua, NH
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3-7 years of experience designing or developing automated equipment.
  • PLC/HMI experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, AutomationDirect, or similar platforms
  • Experience with VFDs, analog instrumentation, digital I/O, communications, and industrial networking
  • Experience with automated machinery, process skids, water treatment, filtration, biotech/pharmaceutical equipment, laboratory equipment, or similar systems
  • Experience taking equipment from concept through design, fabrication, programming, testing, and commissioning
  • Experience working for an OEM, machine builder, or systems integrator
  • Experience developing standardized or configurable equipment platforms
  • Experience with high-purity water or solvent purification systems
  • Experience with process improvement and equipment optimization
  • Strong customer-facing and technical communication skills
  • Willingness to travel locally approximately 2-3 times per year for customer installation and commissioning (local travel).
