Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical school or apprenticeship preferred.
  • Experience with troubleshooting, repair, or rebuilding of mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Welding and cutting experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems; ability to read drawings.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics preferred.
  • DOT/safety certifications may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, service, maintain and repair rail equipment per regulations.
  • Complete inspections and work orders accurately and timely.
  • Perform mechanical, electro-mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic tasks.
  • Work with car and locomotive subsystems; use related hand tools.

Job description

Overview

Herzog Transit Services, Inc. is currently looking for qualified Mechanics/Utility Workers in Miami, FL to join our team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for servicing, maintaining, inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing rail equipment in compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements and Company implemented policies and procedures.
  • Accurately completes equipment inspection, work order and other forms as required in a timely manner.
  • Repair, replace and test machinery, components and systems related to rail equipment under direction of management by performing mechanical, electro-mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic activities.
  • Be capable of working with car and locomotive systems, sub-systems and components of the rail rolling stock to be maintained.
  • Perform standard maintenance tasks including mechanical, electrical, electro-pneumatic on both car and locomotive. Inspection and cleaning, including servicing restrooms, as required.
  • Be skilled in use of all related hand tools such as pneumatic, electrical and hydraulic, and measuring instruments.
  • Clean and maintain work area, tools and shop equipment. Maintain qualifications to support service or maintenance in the shop and yard.
  • Participate in and successfully complete required on-going training including periodic written, oral and hands-on testing. Dependable to report to work at scheduled time and is seldom absent.
  • Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of technical school or apprenticeship program preferred.
  • Experience in troubleshooting, repair, replacement or rebuilding mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Prefer welding and cutting experience.
  • Experience in the maintenance of railroad equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to read and troubleshoot with electrical schematics is preferred.
  • HVAC Clean Air Act Type II, III or Universal certification is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of electrical tools, equipment and the measurements necessary to meet established standards.
  • Some computer skills.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate proficiently.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
  • Pass pre-employment DOT physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly lift weight up to 75 pounds to a height of up to 56 inches.
  • Regularly carry weight up to 75 pounds to a distance up to 100 feet.
  • Regularly push/pull up to 50 pounds for a distance up to 50 feet.
  • Regularly grasp or squeeze with forces up to 40 pounds.
  • Regularly ascend and descend a 10 step ladder with up to 25 pounds. Frequently climb on/off equipment.
  • Work in a confined access/space environment with a height of 12 inches and a width of 24 inches.
  • Regularly kneel, bend, squat while transferring up to 25 pounds of weight.Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces up to 1 mile.
  • Regularly lay on back for extended periods of time.
  • Regularly reach overhead while holding tools.
  • Must be able to be aware of surroundings and follow verbal commands while being exposed to moderately loud noises on a daily basis.
  • Must be able to adapt to various temperature extremes including but not limited to heat, cold, moisture and wind.
  • Must be able to work in a safety sensitive work environment.
  • Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
  • Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
