Job summary

Vertiv designs, builds and services critical infrastructure for data centers, networks and facilities. The role focuses on HVAC and thermal systems engineering from concept to construction drawings, including submittal reviews and compliance with codes.

You will collaborate with vendors and engineering teams, perform CFD/thermal calculations, and support on-site integration of mechanical systems. A Mechanical Engineering degree with a thermal background is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must possess excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and equipment specifications.
• Ability to research new designs, technologies and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide conceptual and detailed design of HVAC and ventilation systems.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state and municipal building codes.
• Review mechanical product submittals and approve them.
• Prepare SD, DD and CD narratives for HVAC design aspects.
• Perform thermal transfer calculations including fire ratings and thermal bridges.
• Conduct simple CFD analyses.
• Support integration teams with mechanical systems and integration drawings.
• Create general layout drawings for all mechanical systems.
• Specify ductwork, cable management, fire suppression piping and other components.
• Collaborate with business units and vendors to select appropriate equipment.
• Define project scope and provide technical support during construction.
• Quality control during system integration.
• Provide on-site integration support.

Responsibilities

• 1) Support the Lead Mechanical Engineer (ME) to provide conceptual and detailed design of all HVAC and ventilation systems..
• 2) Work with local agencies having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes.
• 3) Create designs which meet or exceed Vertiv quality requirements and fall within budgetary requirements.
• 4) Review and approve mechanical product submittals.
• 5) Provide a detailed Schematic Design(SD), Detail Design(DD) and Construction Drawing(CD) narrative for HVAC design aspects of the solution
• 6) Thermal transfer calculations (fire ratings and thermal bridges)
• 7) Simple CFD analysis
• 8) Support contracted integration companies in regards to mechanical systems integration and the creation of integration drawings.
• 9) General layout drawings for all mechanical systems
• 10) Material specification - ductwork, cable management systems including cable tray, Fiber Management systems, wireway, busway, etc.
• 11) Work with Vertiv's business units, Business Partners and preferred vendors to specify the appropriate mechanical equipment including cooling system components, cable management systems, fire suppression piping and other mechanical components.
• 12) Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to and during construction phases.
• 13) Quality control during integration of mechanical systems
• 14) Support for all on site integration support
• Other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications

• 1) Seeking Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a thermal background or acceptable experience
• 2) Working knowledge in AutoDesk suite of Engineering software including AutoCAD and Revit is preferred
• 3) Proven experience with Microsoft Office Applications
• 4) Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings and equipment specifications
• 5) Must be able to clearly interpret customer specification requirements.
• 6) Ability to research new designs, technologies and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities
• 7) Ability to think outside the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs with no impact on quality, reliability or maintainability.
• 8) Must possess excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
• 9) Detail oriented.
