Job summary

Vertiv Group Corporation is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with a thermal background to design HVAC and ventilation systems for data center environments. You will work with agencies to ensure code compliance and deliver detailed narratives for SD, DD, and CD stages.

You will review submittals, perform thermal calculations, and support integration teams with mechanical drawings. Strong communication and detailed-oriented work are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Working knowledge of AutoDesk suite (AutoCAD, Revit).
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings and equipment specifications.
• Ability to interpret customer specification requirements clearly.
• Ability to research new designs, technologies and construction methods for data center equipment.
• Ability to think creatively to reduce costs without impacting quality, reliability, or maintainability.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Detail oriented.

Responsibilities

• Support the Lead Mechanical Engineer with conceptual and detailed HVAC and ventilation designs.
• Coordinate with local agencies to ensure compliance with codes and requirements.
• Create designs meeting Vertiv quality and budget constraints.
• Review and approve mechanical product submittals.
• Provide SD, DD, and CD narratives for HVAC design elements.
• Perform thermal transfer calculations and CFD analyses as needed.
• Support integration teams with mechanical drawings for installations.
• Produce general layouts for all mechanical systems and specify ductwork and cable management components.
• Collaborate with Vertiv units, partners, and vendors to select appropriate equipment.
• Define project scope and respond to information requests during construction.
• Quality control during mechanical system integration.
• Provide on-site support during integration.
• Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

1. 1) Support the Lead Mechanical Engineer (ME) to provide conceptual and detailed design of all HVAC and ventilation systems..
2. 2) Work with local agencies having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes.
3. 3) Create designs which meet or exceed Vertiv quality requirements and fall within budgetary requirements.
4. 4) Review and approve mechanical product submittals.
5. 5) Provide a detailed Schematic Design(SD), Detail Design(DD) and Construction Drawing(CD) narrative for HVAC design aspects of the solution
6. 6) Thermal transfer calculations (fire ratings and thermal bridges)
7. 7) Simple CFD analysis
8. 8) Support contracted integration companies in regards to mechanical systems integration and the creation of integration drawings.
9. 9) General layout drawings for all mechanical systems
10. 10) Material specification – ductwork, cable management systems including cable tray, Fiber Management systems, wireway, busway, etc.
11. 11) Work with Vertiv’s business units, Business Partners and preferred vendors to specify the appropriate mechanical equipment including cooling system components, cable management systems, fire suppression piping and other mechanical components.
12. 12) Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to and during construction phases.

Desired Qualifications

1. 1) Seeking Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a thermal background or acceptable experience
2. 2) Working knowledge in AutoDesk suite of Engineering software including AutoCAD and Revit is preferred
3. 3) Proven experience with Microsoft Office Applications
4. 4) Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings and equipment specifications
5. 5) Must be able to clearly interpret customer specification requirements.
6. 6) Ability to research new designs, technologies and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities
7. 7) Ability to think outside the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs with no impact on quality, reliability or maintainability.
8. 8) Must possess excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
9. 9) Detail oriented.
