Job summary

Brevard Public Schools seeks an experienced Mechanical Technician to support transportation shop operations in Cocoa, FL. The position covers beginning and advanced levels, with strong emphasis on school bus maintenance, safety compliance, and hands-on repair.

Requirements include a HS diploma, CDL Class B with air brakes and endorsements, DOE School Bus Inspector certification within a year, and ASE or MRT credentials preferred. 12-month contract, 8-hour days.

Qualifications

• HS diploma/equivalent; experience may substitute.
• Two (2) yrs journeyman-level automotive/diesel mechanic exp. OR one (1) yr in BPS Bus/Support Vehicle Maintenance with favorable skill evaluation by Shop Supv/Asst. Dir.
• Fl CDL Class B or higher with air brakes, Passenger (P), and School Bus (S) endorsements within 3 months of employment.
• Certified D.O.E. School Bus Inspector within 1 yr of appt.
• PREF - ASE certification in Heavy Duty Truck, School Bus, and/or Automobile Repair, or MRT certification; valid certification qualifies for a 5% supplement.
