Job summary

TC Energy is expanding its Dakota Area team in Estelline, SD to support operation and maintenance of natural gas pipelines and facilities. The Mechanical Technician will troubleshoot and maintain engines, turbines, compressors, pumps, and related equipment, with responsibilities including pipeline maintenance, line locates, and compliance with safety and environmental procedures.

The role requires strong analytical skills, the ability to work with minimal supervision, and willingness to travel

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree or technical training preferred in engine/mechanical fields.
  • Two years of vocational/technical training preferred.
  • Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting turbine engines recommended.
  • Knowledge of electrical test equipment used to troubleshoot equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, operate, and maintain engines, gas-fired turbines, gas compressors, and related equipment.
  • Assist in full or partial gas compressor overhauls.
  • Operate compressor engines and support equipment.
  • Perform precision measurement and alignment functions.
  • Read and interpret P&ID and electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Maintain and repair pipelines and operate valves and regulators.
  • Plan and perform mechanical maintenance activities and major projects.
  • Enter data into SAP/Blueworx and create new work orders.

The Opportunity

Our USGO Dakota Area team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business and we are expanding our presence in Estelline, SD to support the operation and maintenance of our natural gas pipelines and associated facilities throughout Deuel County and the surrounding area.

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician who possesses knowledge and experience of high-pressure natural gas pipeline and gas storage systems, to include turbine engine compressors.

This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses strong analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.

What you'll do

Troubleshoot, operate, and maintain engines, gas-fired turbines, gas compressors, standby generator engines, centrifugal and diaphragm pumps, low pressure boilers, oil coolers, air compressors, large-bank cooler fans and gear boxes, large diameter valves and operators, and other auxiliary equipment

Assist in full or partial gas compressor overhauls

Operate compressor engines and support equipment

Perform precision measurement and alignment functions

Read, interpret, and update drawings and schematics (P&ID and electrical)

Maintain and repair pipelines

Operate and maintain valves and operators

Inspect, repair, and set regulators and relief valves

Blow down, purge, and pressurize pipelines and/or stations

Storage field facility operations and maintenance to include valve maintenance, pigging, and other tasks as required

Perform line locates on company pipelines and/or utility line patrols and associated right-of-way maintenance

Plan, coordinate, and perform mechanical maintenance activities, to include routine corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, equipment and system improvements, and major maintenance projects

Initiate corrective action to review and improve maintenance procedures

Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP and/or Blueworx

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

Associate degree to include courses in engine mechanics and pneumatic troubleshooting

Two years of vocational/technical training from a recognized institution preferred

Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting turbine engines

Relevant natural gas or energy industry experience

Knowledge of electronic and electrical test equipment used to troubleshoot associated equipment, such as transmitters, switches, and pressure/temperature devices

Industrial experience in a plant environment

This position requires candidates to:

Have and maintain a valid driver's license and a safe driving record

Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, to include drug and alcohol testing

Be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes

Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings, or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home

Be subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures, heavy lifting (50 pounds), and cramped conditions
