Job Description: Mechanical Technician (342543)

About This Role

Mechanical Technician position supporting high‑performance unmanned systems for military and commercial clients. Responsibilities include test, integration, assembly, maintenance, and on‑water support of surface systems and small craft. The role requires travel, experimental hardware testing, and development of operational skills.

Core Competencies
  • Read assembly documentation—Work Instructions, drawings, parts lists, and diagrams—to assemble and install components.
  • Assemble and troubleshoot drivetrain components and hydraulic actuation systems.
  • Use hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers) on a small naval craft.
  • Use precision tools such as calipers, combination squares, and torque wrenches.
  • Use power tools—drills, saws, sanders, grinders.
  • Identify and document work order instructions, test procedures, and drawing errors.
  • Assist engineering in issue resolution as part of a design, build, or test team.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot ocean‑going Unmanned Surface Systems and support craft.
  • Assist Engineers and Designers with prototype development and testing.
  • Support off‑site qualification testing according to written procedures.
  • Develop operational and technical manuals.
  • Interface with existing and prospective customers and service members at demonstrations.
  • Perform lab maintenance, safety audits, and material tracking.
  • Promote a safety‑first mindset during lab and off‑site testing.
Qualifications
  • Professional written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET level security clearance.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret drawings and schematics.
  • Multitasking and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions on water and away from land.
  • Ability to work in tight quarters and confined spaces.
  • Swimming capability.
  • Extended work hours to meet program goals.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50 % (≈183 days per year).
  • Knowledge and use of common hand tools.
  • Experience with diesel engines strongly preferred.
  • Experience assembling maritime systems strongly preferred.
  • Boating or shipboard experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience as a small boat handler is a plus.
  • Knowledge of test instrumentation and laboratory practices is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of military specifications is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of military hardware is a plus.

Compensation

Competitive base pay. Per‑hour range: $23.27 – $34.23, based upon experience, qualification and market.
