Job summary

Progressive Companies in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to design high-performance mechanical systems for building projects. You will translate concepts into fully coordinated solutions, collaborating with peers and clients to meet goals, budgets and schedules.

The role requires ABET-mechanical degree and PE license, 5+ years of design experience, proficiency in load calculations, HVAC systems, Revit or AutoCAD, and strong QA/QC knowledge.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited or equivalent) and Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• 5+ years of experience designing mechanical systems for building projects.
• Proven experience with load calculations, equipment sizing, and HVAC/mechanical system design.
• Strong knowledge of construction documentation, QA/QC processes, and applicable codes and standards.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
• Proficiency in Revit and/or AutoCAD; working knowledge of standard design tools and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical system designs including load analysis, equipment sizing, ductwork, hydronic, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
• Coordinate mechanical design efforts through schematic design, design development, and construction documentation phases.
• Conduct field investigations, site visits, and project meetings alongside Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams.
• Utilize design tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, and BSD SpecLink to produce accurate models and construction documents.
• Collaborate with internal disciplines and external consultants to ensure coordinated, conflict-free project documentation.
• Support QA/QC processes and ensure deliverables align with Progressive standards, project budgets, and schedules.
• Assist in proposal development and support monitoring of project scope, budget, and schedule with the Senior Mechanical Engineer.
• Communicate changes in scope, risks, or budget impacts to project leadership in a timely manner.
• Maintain strong client relationships and demonstrate responsiveness and technical confidence in your area of expertise.
